FWIW, VA medical coverage is not automatically provided to all veterans. Although I'm a veteran (5 yrs. Army), I don't meet the very low income threshhold for VA medical assistance. (I checked a few years ago, and was surprised just how little one has to earn, to get kicked out of coverage.)

Pierat, How many years ago was "a few years ago?" It keeps changing and the changes for several years have been more liberal.

My wife and I both have full coverage due to service connected disabilities. But, if we had to pay our own medical, there'd be little food in the house and no motorhome, at all! We take so many pills, we rattle!

I have several friends and acquaintances who have too much income to qualify, and no disabilities, let alone service connected. But, they get prescription coverage. They get a prescription from their private doctor, and bring it to the VA Hospital. There it is rewritten by VA Medical staff for the generic equalivalent and filled at the VA pharmacy. They are charged a $7.00 co-pay for each prescription. It's a big deal, for them!

I don't know the particulars, but you might check it out. Also check with the DAV, VFW or American Legion, for assistance with the red tape.
