1997 Kit Sportscaster
« on: October 13, 2018, 12:26:11 PM »
Hi,
My husband and I "inherited" a 1997 Kit Sportsmaster that we have to have towed but the side out is out.  How do we locate the mechanism to manually close the side out?  Appreciate any help.

Welcome to The RV Forum!

Slides operate automatically using a switch inside the living area. usually just inside the front door.  Make sure you leave the door open when you move the slide in and out so the air inside the RV has a place to escape as the slide changes the interior volume of the RV.  Otherwise the slide will act like a bellows, compressing the air and making it much harder to move.

If the switch doesn't activate the slide motor, the trailer battery may be low or dead.  Use a pair of jumper cables to connect the trailer battery to a running car.  This should provide enough power to let you use the slide motor.  Plugging the trailer into electricity may do the same thing.

If that doesn't work, here's a Youtube video showing how to manually retract the various types of slideout mechanisms:
