We rented a Sonic for a couple of weeks when our Jeep was stolen on a trip.  If you're anywhere near 6'2" 280lbs don't bother.  Getting in and out of that thing was kinda like putting on a wet suit.  It was fine for a couple of weeks while visiting Florida, but I sure wouldn't have wanted to do a 250 mile day trip like we did in the Jeep the other day.  The Jeep is no luxury car, but at least I can get in and out of it without folding my body into positions it was never designed to take.

Wally has a point.. I'm over 6 ' and about 300 pounds
I JUST FIT in a dodge neon. If I inflate my Dr Ho belt I do not fit it's that tight
Likewise a Mercury Tracer/Ford Escort.

Now a Chevy Lumina APV.. Or a JEEP Liberty (not towable 4 down with full time 4 wheel drive) I fit nicely.

Too much $$$$ for even 10yr models. The Ford Escape I got is 2010, had 50,000miles, a manual tranny and got it for $6,000.  New tires, battery, and in mint condition.  I got lucky for sure.

My specs ARE
GVWR 22,000
CW 19,300
GCWR 26000
My Silverado base weight is 4749

I cant tell me hitch rating 64-5321 is a sticker that is on it. Anyway to find out?

I refer to tow what I own. If the Chevy works without too much stress on the engine and tranny I would prefer that.

Old Crow where was your Jeep Stolen?

We had stopped for a couple of nights at Jeff Busby campground, on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi.  It was taken the first night(after they tried the door to the motor home and found it locked).
It was recovered about 3 weeks later at Meriweather Lewis campground, about 250 miles up the Trace, just west of Nashville, Tn.  I got it back in running condition, but without a winch, hi-lift jack, auxiliary lighting, xm radio receiver, and about $800 worth of tools.  They had also spray painted over my 3 month old paint job to try and camouflage it some.

Your size and the Sonic did not match but ours has given us great service but is lightly driven at home.  2013 model with 23K miles.  Personally I only use it for local trips as the seat padding gets a bit thin after about 50 miles.  The wife loves it and considers it 'her car' and I am relegated to the Chrysler Town & Country - fine by me but it is not towable.  Nice thing about the Sonic - miles do not register when being towed.

Boy, you're right there, Bill.  We drove that Sonic from Fort Pickens in Pensacola, down to Panama City Beach and back one day.  Just a shade under 200 miles for the day.  My butt had never been so happy by the time we finally got back to the coach.

One thing I liked about my 1992 Lumina with Axle lock.

This would also apply to any other car towed with an Axel lock or drive shaft disconnect.

When in "Towed" mode it is a true trailer. NO POWER TO THE WHEELS.. If you fire up the engine, Put the tranny in Drive. Put the peddal to the metal.. It goes nowhere.. NO POWER TO THE WHEELS .

The mods needed to tow are an anti-theft device.

CJAG:  According to the 2008 Aurora brochure, your hitch receiver is rated for 5000 lbs. However, you may not have 5000 lbs of tow capacity left if your coach is loaded near its max payload and GVWR. If the actual loaded coach weight exceeds 21,000 lbs, you are almost surely exceeding the limits if you tow that Silverado. It is highly likely that the CW of 19,300 is low and you have surely added more weight in gear than you can easily imagine.  Only a scale can tell you for sure.

Inevitably the question is asked "Can't I be just a teensy bit over?" There is no meaningful answer to that. We can probably all agree that 1 lb probably makes no different, but much beyond that is strictly a matter of how much a gambler you are.

Interesting choice on the Z3.  We have a 2016 Challenger and a 2010 Z4 M, thought about doing either one, but eventually ended up with a 2010 HHR.  (automatic and flat towable, and a really nice one is about $5k) The wife wouldn't allow the Challenger to be towed, and in the end I couldn't see towing a Z4M behind the motorhome.
I don't know about the Z3's, but the Z4 under carriage is completely enclosed with a full length belly pan. Just draining the oil requires removing a trap door. It would be fun doing the drive line. The HHR really turned out to be a pretty flexable Toad.  We can put both road bikes in the back standing up, all sorts of other "gobbdly goop" as well.  It even does fairly decient when the road ends, well, to a point.

Okay, what's an HHR?
