You can complain to the cops but nobody will help you. I dont live in your country. It means nobody can track me even for 2 weeks. Your device is infected by my virus. We recorded you through your web-camera, during your porn-site visit. Now I have a record of you, touching your intimate parts. Having VNC connection we copied all your contacts so if you want us to stay silent you should pay 520 USD in bitcoin. Use this wallet address to pay ( 1KVe8hc2jeqyeBGehqWEtZqcH7DhWPJPXJ ) (something like a credit card number) You have 30 hours after you open this message to complete the transaction. There is no need to write me that you have paid. This address was connected to you, my system will remove everything automatically after transfer confirmation. You can get 48 hours only write back +. All the best. Think about the shame.

Gotta love that part "All the best"

By the way my fridge died on the same day so there was -0- funding to buy his "silence".

That is strange, indeed. I've had some odd emails, but nothing approaching that one.

I keep getting phone calls starting out, "Hello Grandpa." Or, "I've been trying to reach you." Or, "This is your final notice." (I wish). Last spring I got a low pitched female voice claiming to be the IRS. Recently that same voice claims to be from Microsoft. And of course there are the bad accents claiming there's something wrong with my computer. One call the other day actually said, among other numbers to press, "Press 8 and we won't call back." Well, it was something like that.

Apparently some people DO fall for these.

I got one a few weeks ago about "renewing" my Windows O.S. license and if I didn't, my computer would be shut down in like 48 hours..........you know, the same computer with Windows OS that I'm typing this on.  Do you think I should call them back and tell them that my time limit has expired?  8)

I honestly wish I could catch up so some of these scammers.  I would probably get banned here for saying what I would do to them, so I won't......use your imagination on that one!

And BTW......the scam about having pictures of someone after they've visited a porn site are pretty common.....I've seen it a several times.  There are all kinds of scams out there, so it's basically a "buyer beware" type thing.  Unfortunately, there are people that fall for that crap, and it seems that the most vulnerable ones are the older folks.....the ones that in many cases can be taken advantage of easier than anyone else

Well at least the Nigerians have quit sending the 'I am going to give you 20 million dollars' emails.  Looks like the crooks have moved up to more classy stuff - porn viewers in the act..................LOL

We get a lot of these where I work.  We call them "Threat Spam".  Ours also tell the person they have their password, and changing it will not do any good, as they have a "monitor" (or some other reference) to record their new password.  There are variances on the text.  Almost all of them were an actual password the person used, but it's very old and is no longer being used.  They are using lists from sites they hacked years ago, trying to scare you into giving them the bitcoin.

If you go to the website "https://haveibeenpwned.com/", and enter your e-mail, you can see if your information has been stolen in recent or past data breaches.  My personal e-mail is on a couple of those lists, but again, with very old passwords.  My work e-mail was not on it.

This just goes to show the importance of changing your password, even if not often, at least occasionally.

I had exactly the same email.  These guys just don't quit.  Unfortunately, some people really do believe them and pay up.  These type of emails are really getting to be a PITA!!!!!!!!

I got a very similar ransom demand in the last couple days, even longer and more detailed.  Wants $960 in Bitcoin within 48 hours. LOL - I'll take my chances!!!

I must be the lucky one.....I don't get these type of emails....But I'm very selective about who gets my email address. The last 2 new fords I bought the dealer wanted my email...When I asked WHY ....Well we need it for the paperwork....My answer was NO and if you need it for the paperwork then I'll shop elsewhere.......

I did get an email stating that if you don't pay they will send me the video.....For the love of God ..please pay I don't want to see that....

My laptop has no camera. Even funnier.

However...

Recently a stranger called me about donating to the police and I said "I'm sitting here naked touching myself and I just can't talk right now."

I had company at the time, who couldn't stop laughing for the next 10 minutes.  ;D

I got a call from Paul at the IRS saying I owed $7500. I told him how sorry I'm I was to hear that and I was more than willing to rattle off some fake charge card numbers. I must have surprised him with wanting to pay so quickly because he said in his India accent "Sir Sir! This is very serious business!! I oh I know it is Paul and did I mention that your mother is a dirty S - - t. SIR! SIR! This is very serious business!! I know Paul I know I want to pay you with my charge card but I just wanted to tell you that your father is actually well you can imagine what I said.
He hung up so I called the number and of course it was a different person so I started telling her the same nasty stuff and she hung up. I tried to call again but they blocked me. Go figure.

We went through all the dinner time phone calls on our landline and got rid of them then we got bombarded with email bs then cell phone calls and now they are spamming our text.

At times I consider just going back to a cheap cheap phone to make any needed phone calls but we get our internet on these smart phones

Lucky me, I seem to get those regularly.
Have no idea what they?re saying as I don?t even know which oriental language is being spoken.
Wish I could just get some software that would reject all the crap email and phone calls.
Wouldn?t that be perfect  ;D :))

You got an email from somebody you don't know and you opened it?  ::) :)( Hope it was Mailwasher you used to view it and not your email software.

How many people have received a phone call with an oriental language as the only language spoken?
I have 4 phones and received it on all of the phones over the past 2 months

I use to get those on a work phone..Long story short
The previous owner of the phone was the wife of the President of the factory. He was sent back to Korea on short notice.(Fleeing sexual harassment charges) They didn't have time to notify their local Korean friends. I was getting calls for about a week before I got a caller that could speak English. Once I explained that they had left the country the calls stop.

No, I never open an email from anyone that I don?t know.
All my mail is always received in brief preview mode.
I see the subject line and the first one or two lines of the body.
If I don?t know the sender, DELETE.
If it is something I?m not sure of and think I may need to see body, I go to the ISP server and look there.
Pretty sure ISP won?t allow something to open if its dangerous.

Don?t think that will work for me, I get V/M if I don?t answer and it is always a recording.

He hung up so I called the number and of course it was a different person so I started telling her the same nasty stuff and she hung up.

The big problem with that is that the caller ID is often spoofed, so you may well have called an innocent party. A couple of weeks ago I had one of those spam calls that the caller ID showed was me- yes, name and phone number. When I laughed in their face (and a couple of choice comments), they hung up. After a couple of those, I started getting the same ID but (same voice -- the one from the "IRS") saying "Goodbye" then hanging up. After letting a couple of those go to the answering machine they quit (at least for now).

My Google Pixel 2 already has a pretty good built-in spam filter which marks many calls as likely spam before you have a chance to answer them.  Now Google has added to that by creating a "Screen Call" button which I can push instead of either answering or rejecting a call.  Screening the call means that it is answered by a "robot" that asks the caller the reason for the call.  The text of the question and the answer is displayed on the phone's screen.  You can pick up the call at any point or simply hang up on it.
