He is doing all of this work and I'm installing an el cheapo Chinese diesel heater.

OMG. What a pile of work and expense. More power to him. But, I'll just buy a pair of battery heated socks.  ;D ;D ;D
 
That would be a neat way to heat a rig - from the hot water tank.  Silence is golden :)

But your right - unless I had it tore down that far for some reason I wouldn't even consider it.

I know someone that did something similar, except they used the propane water heater connected to a liquid to liquid heat exchange as their heat source along with a circulation pumps.  Also they used smaller 3/8 inch (1/2 inch OD)  (I think, perhaps something smaller like 1/4 inch) PEX,  routed serpentine groves for it in the OSB floor boards, then overlayed engineered plank flooring.
