I like Garmin. It's my primary GPS Navigation. But I also like having a hot backup. Between Google and Apple I think Google is a better maps/navigation app. So I run Google Maps on an Apple WiFi-Only iPad Mini 4. "Wifi-Only" is an important item. What Apple rarely (if ever) advertises is that if you don't buy cell service on your iPad then you don't get the GPS chip either... So "Location Services" uses WiFi to get GPS and feed that to apps. If you have issues with WiFi then your GPS is gonna suffer or just fail altogether. The best way to avoid those issue is to serve the iPad straight GPS without WiFi AND use offline apps. I'm using the Dual Electronics XGPS150A Multipurpose Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver over Bluetooth to feed the iPad GPS data and hoping to use Google's offline maps (if they get around to approving my account). I might have to dump Google Maps and use another app with offline maps called Co-Pilot...
