Where is  everyone  going?

I have found  out  that  last minute arrangements are SCARY!  hahaha

Everyone must schedule many months in  advance.

I did that last  year.  I made  reservations in February, but  this year, I just this week knew if we would have time off to go somewhere and  the pickings are  SLIM  to NONE at this  point.

I can't go FAR.  Time won't allow.  But we found a little spot about 1 and 1/2 hours away to camp and do  a little fishing.

Hope other people in other states have better options so late in the game  of reservation making.

We tend to stay away from the campgrounds Memorial Day weekend.  However, living in Indy, and the Indy 500, tends to be active with cookouts and gatherings.  Yes, we always try and book out as far as possible.  Some think I'm silly talking camping in January, but the best spots always go first.  Every place we camp (state parks), we walk the campground with our map, and rate every site 1-4, 1 being best. It makes reserving easy, and if plans change, and you need to cancel, it's only $10 charge.  This late in the game, trying to find a camp spot 2 weeks out on a very popular weekend, would be slim pickins here as well.  Good luck, hope you find something and enjoy the weekend.

Being retired now we try to avoid any of the holiday weekends. But even trying to get a nice place during the season can be a challenge.

That the main reason I'm focusing on boondocking.. It opens up a lot more choices.

X 2. We usually try going during the middle of the week and some campgrounds give a discount Sunday through Thursday.

We are working a long weekend music camp.  So far there are about 60 musicians of various levels, styles, and abilities expected.  It?s going to be fun!

Hope I get to play some, I?m The camp director.

We are new to camping. Have just bought a motorhome. We aim to combine camping with our love of music. Hubby and I both play guitar and sing, like to do open mics and particularly like to jam with others. Do you know of camping opportunities with other amateur musicians in Michigan or Ohio?

Heading to King Phillips Campground in Lake George, NY for the 5th year in a row. Lake George itself is a zoo that weekend (and all summer long) but this campground is a small, quite place just south of the village. We got in there the first time on a last minute cancellation and loved it so much we reserve for the next year as we leave on Monday! We avoid camping around Independence Day but love Memorial Day and Labor Day!

GuitarJan,

Sorry, I don?t.  We found one in quartzite.  Another in Yuma, and a third in Desert Hot Springs on our last extended trip.  My experience is that the ?unofficial? Campground jams are almost always better.

We are actually going the Tuesday after.  No interest in crowds.

I'll  be back  at work Tuesday.  Boo  hoo.

I agree  that  Holiday weekends are so crowded, but if that is the  only  time off from work.......

I am happy for  all  the  campers that don't  have  to  worry about going to  work.

That sounds  fun.  Newport mansions?  Do you have  a link  to admire about that?

You might look for a campsite in a dull place.  For example, not on a lake, not on a river, no pool or hot tub, not near family attractions, etc.  What you are looking for are places families are likely not to go.  Locations in cities are also possibilities, as everyone wants to get out of the city for holidays.  Maybe a casino??

Not only are those less likely to be busy on holiday weekends, but they are also not likely to be as noisy.

As a full-timer, I have learned that the big weekends are the reservations I need to make long in advance or I will end up panicking at the last moment without a place to stay.

Ziplock,I wish he was retired!  I think he is on a countdown for it.  It's hard to take much of a trip otherwise.

May I ask where you are spending Memorial Day?

Ohhhhh,

We are going to Castaways on 7/8 to 7/12.

What plans have you made  for the  summer and early Fall?

Ziplock I did not.  Going to Castaways in Ocean City.  I wanted to try Frontiertown but I think my husband wants to stick with one we know.

The same thing is true during the Labor Day holiday. Last year I was traveling and didn't make reservations and got a scolding from the camp ground owner. I simply asked them if they had a spot for me or not. Figure I could move on down the road or stay at a Wal-mart if I had to. Didn't want a lecture on making reservations. They had a spot for me after all. I gave them a lower rating for hassling me. I did appreciate a spot to camp through. Didn't appreciate the speed bump they had which really rattled the RV when crossing it at slowest speed. Oh well.
