This will be our first time travelling with a pet and our English Shepherd puppy will be about three months old.  I searched but didn't find any recent discussions about water bowls.  Below are three different styles that I've found.  Appreciate your thoughts and experiences.

Depends somewhat on the size of the puppy.

I use one of the "Anti splash waterholes" when on the road for my Cat.> Now Alex is a Maine Coon. they typically run 30 pounds or more (BIG kitty cats) and he's about 30 pounds so..  He has no problem with it..  Not sure if they come in different sizes for dogs.. Got mine at either Pet Smart or Pet supplies Plus (Whichever one is in Seneca SC)

The anti-splash bowl worked well for our dog for 16 years traveling. When she was older and losing her eyesight, we learned to only fill it to the bottom of the inner opening. Then when  she accidentally stepped on the edge and tipped it over, hardly a drop would spill.

Thanks.  Sounds like any of the three would work; hope I don't have to try all three  ;)

With my previous dogs I used the second one you have listed, the "Water Hole". Literally never splashed no matter how rough the road. Easy to clean

We use the same food & water bowls as we have at home. We put down fresh water for Fido when the humans stop to stretch their legs.

I ordered one similar to the third link which doesn't work now.

This is what I got:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JHTKQNK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Our puppy started drinking from it immediately and hasn't made a mess at home.  Will report back after we see how well it holds up.

Aw heck. Go to Goodwill and buy a couple of stainless steel mixing bowls.  Cheap, easy to find, easy to clean up.  Pet stores have a plastic mats for around 5 dollars that will hold a lot of water.

K9 Tactical makes a nice one https://k9tacticalgear.com/collections/bowls-pails/products/plastic-spill-proof-buddy-bowl

Instead of spending a fortune on junk go to your local thrift store and buy some SS mixing bowls.  Used them for years with our dogs.  For probably 2 dollars each is the bargain of a lifetime.  You can afford two inside and one outside.  Heck we even had one for the squirles to drink out of.

I remember a thread a while back (maybe a couple years ago) and the second one seemed to be the most popular then.
We just give our dogs water when we stop for breaks and keep cheap towels under the water bowls. Our Great Dane tends to be a little messy and slobber when he drinks, that's something we prefer to avoid while in motion.

Good gosh, go to your local thrift store and buy several stainless steel mixing bowls.  For anywhere from 50 cents to two dollars their cheap, strong, durable.  When we traveled we always had two outside.  One for the dog another for the critters, and another two inside.  At the pet store you can buy a rubber mat that has a lip on it to hold water and dribble.  Our current dog usually leaves a pint of water in it.  Yea, he slobbers and drinks a LOT.

I had posted the one I bought and have been very pleased with it.  Use it at home, in the motorhome, and the pick up truck.  No problem with spills, easy to clean, and so far hasn't fallen apart.  Our dog that stays at home has a repurposed kettle that works well too.
