Does anyone have any thoughts on 6 ply Contender Task Master tires for use on a 26' TT, loaded weight less than 6K#?

Look at the Made in.  If it says China, run.  Current top contender for ST tires are the GoodYear Endurance

Never heard of that brand, so likely to be a no-name China factory brand.  However, I see Discount Tire and etrailer.com sell them, so at least there is a place to lodge complaints if you have a problem.

As for the suitability to your trailer, need to know the tire size and load capacity to judge.  The 6-ply rating (Load Range C) doesn't mean a thing without having the tire size and type (ST or LT).  Also need the axle weight ratings for the trailer, that is the GAWRs.  Federal law requires that the tires be capable of carrying the max axle load.  I'd guess your axles are 3500-4000 lbs each, but check the placard on the trailer for the real data.  For example, the Taskmaster ST205/75R15 in 6-ply is rated for  max of 1820 lbs/tire, ok for a 3500 lb axle but not a 4000 lb. The St225/75R15 would probably be ok for 4000+.
