Sorry to hear about your bad result.  Did you do PT after the replacement?
My doctor told me if I didn't do the PT I would need to have manipulation of the knee under anesthesia.
I did PT after each replacement.  So far they are working great.

Did PT and when released went to the gym and worked out.

After right knee replacement, I ended up with less than 45? of motion. Had to go back in and manipulate the knee under anesthesia and nerve block. The in home therapist said I needed to move on to a therapy clinic. He was correct. I put a lot of effort on the bicycle to recover my range of motion.
Never again will I allow a butcher to cut on my knee. I went for stem cell treatment on my left knee, in November 2018, and so far I am pain free. $3,200 out of pocket but worth every penny.

I have the procedure this Wednesday at 1030 then start PT at 2pm same day. The manipulation is on my left knee. The doctor injected my right knee even though I told him it does no good. Stem cell treatment; I?ll have to look into that.

How does stem cell treatment work on knee problems?  What exactly does it do to repair knee?

Thank you Jackie. I am back and time will tell if it worked. I left the surgery center and went right to PT. Can?t walk yet as my femoral block is still in effect. I fell while in PT and thought I would pass out from the pain. Should be able to walk tomorrow. I was given a prescription for oxycodone. I don?t how people get addicted to this stuff. Makes me feel like crap.

Glad you got through that part. Hope your recovery is steady and successful.

Yeah kinda had the same reaction to that Oxy-stuff. It did make the pain not hurt, but I could tell where it should be hurting, and it just felt really weird.

When I had my first shoulder replacement, kthe doc gave me oxy-something which made me itch like crazy. The last time he gave me hydro-codone. That worked well. I find that Tylenol works well for me.

Good Luck Gator, Hope they figure it out and get you fixed up.  My wife had both knees replaced and I had a hip replaced and we were very fortunate and all went very well.  Everyone we know who had knees and hips replaced did not have any complications.  Just lucky I guess.  I guess we should appreciate our good fortune.

Sorry to hear you fell, hope you didn't damage anything.  Fingers crossed for a good outcome!  :-*

?Getting Old is not for sissies.? Quote from my wife?s neurosurgeon.

I?m of the mindset the knee will either get better or not. I?ve been putting up with bad knees and herniated disks in my neck since the 80?s. We pay greatly later in life for what we do to our bodies early in our life.

Yup. The old adage rings true - "If I'd known I'd live this long, I would have took better care of myself."

Lowell, really sorry about the late reply. I may be old but I am slow............The stem Cell injection is supposed to help regrow the cartlidge. My injection was a year ago and the pain is gone when I behave myself. If I do a 3 or 4 hour walk about, I start to limp a little. After being down the road with a butcher on my right knee. I'll try any other option for less knee pain.

I'm tempted to ask what you were doing to wear those out, but I'm afraid of the answer ??

I hope everything continues to go well.  Hubby had his left one replaced in September, about 4 years too late in my opinion.  His rehab has been slow because he had no range of motion for many years prior to surgery and also his right knee is giving him no support (that one is scheduled for January).  Progress is slow and frustrating, but there is progress.  Good luck with your rehab!

How aggravating to trust the experts, since we can't all be doctors and mechanics and plumbers etc, and have them fail you. Hopefully this new doc will fix you up good as new!

Still in PT. I see the Dr Thursday. My fear is he will say he has to go back in and do some repairs. Then I need to get the other one done.

Good luck Gator.
I have had both knees replaced by ortho specialists. Mine were done as out patient surgery and I was home by noon each time. At the time I was 55 and 56 years old. I had them done one year apart. I was back to work within 3 weeks for each. Being young helps speed recovery. My biggest thing was staying ahead of the pain, take the pain meds. Do the therapy all the time. I did toe/heel pumps in my recliner all day long. Plus I drank a ton of water, which forced me to get up and urinate all the time. The up and down helped with the therapy and recovery. It takes about 1.5 years to feel pressure while kneeling. Be forewarned, I am not normal. Most take 3 months to recover.

The hardest thing to overcome was the way I used to walk. When your in pain, you develop a gait that minimizes the pain. However once the knee has been replaced, you must force yourself to walk upright and normally. The pain isn't there, its all in your head and muscle memory. Retrain yourself. If you don't you live a self fulfilled prophecy.
