The 2020 OLD WEST BALLOON FEST will be held August 10 thru 17, 2020, at the Mitchell, NE Airport (10 miles from Scottsbluff, NE), with the initial launches occurring around 0630 daily. http://theoldwestballoonfest.com/ There are about 75 balloons in attendance, with about half being national competitors! There are beverage & food vendors at the field. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, binoculars, cameras & a hot drink! The activity at the field is over by about 0900 and the rest of the day is yours.
The best camping nearby is the RIVERSIDE CAMPGROUND, in Scottsbluff alongside the North Platte River under the Scottsbluff Monument, dry - $10 / electric & water - $20 / full hookups - $25, with about a 15 minute drive to the launch site. The Scottsbluff Zoo is within walking distance.
