However, we may be moving tomorrow afternoon. This site not as nice as the usual one. Will keep all posted.

Thanks.  My ETA is now Friday also.  Decided to do one day here in the organ pipe cacti.

I spent  a week there last month and it wasn't long enough for me. I will do the max they allow the next time I am in OPCNM. But I wish they had electricity there. And no quiet hours.  I have to use my RV Generator to charge my electric motorcycle that I always take with me to explore all the unpaved roads in OPCNM. That combined with quiet hours sometimes makes it a hassle to charge up the bike.

BTW, they now have a restaurant in Lukeville. It opened just a few months ago.

Below is a photo of the wall they are building. I took that photo on my ride to  Quitobaquito Springs.

Hi Don - I also have a love affair with OPCNM.  I've been here 3 days actually, (post should have read "one MORE day") and spent 5 days here last year.  Just the best place.  The quiet hours can be problematic I guess, but I haven't had any hassles yet.  Had to run gen lots more this year as it's been mostly cloudy all three days.

Some camping acquaintances parked next to me said you can see the wall from the Desert View Trail also.  It's slotted concrete right?  I think I'm kinda impressed with the way it lets the landscape on the other side show through.  Maybe it's just your pic, but it's not as unattractive as I imagined.

Thank you for the info on the restaurant.  Yeh, no convenient places to grab a bite, but I planned for that too. Headed out for a little walk now.  I'm looking for Crested Saguaros!

It's concrete on the bottom only. Even the old small boarder fence (now being replaced with the wall) has a heavy metal horizontal bar , see photo below. That is so nobody can drive a vehicle through it.

And a photo of Q. Springs as a bonus. Have you been there? 20 miles west  of LukeVille on an unpaved road, about one mile north.

It was above 70°F.  almost every day I was there in mid December.

Just a hello from KOFA January 2020.  Shown is our small group just right of center.  Pic taken from top of Cholla Hill where Theresa, Maria and Linda did a short hike yesterday.  Second pic is "our mountain" taken from opposing direction.  Cholla Hill would be to the left behind Kevin's rig.  Pictures just don't do this place justice -- it is truly beautiful.  A little rain Wednesday has kept the dust down and there is very little traffic on King's Road this year.

Another gathering is planed for Feb. 22-27 so if you want a quiet break with incredible scenery, free camping, and great people, come and join in.

Where's the selfie of the three of you on the hill?

It's just been too beautiful to leave for the Q. May make a Happy Hour or the Potluck.

Linda, missed you at the fire last night.

Maria has the selfie, so we'll need to get her to text it to us.

I missed you guys also.  Went in about 4:00 p.m. to do a little reading and then Z Z Z Z Z Z Z Z Z Zs.  Hope to catch you here in Q for a happy hour or the potluck to say a proper goodbye.

What a great time! We ended up staying several more days than we had planned... as did others. Very relaxing, and great to see folks again. If anyone ever needs to put out a fire, contact Garyb1st. He brought with him some homemade fire-starting thingys (they looked like cow pies) and they were the only things in the fire pit that wouldn’t burn. We haven’t laughed so hard in months.

We started getting a “Low Coolant Level” warning while driving near Yuma, which automatically limits the engine to 70% of its output. Had to put 1.5 gallons of coolant, and about half a gallon of water in the radiator to make it up the grade on the way home. Took it to Freightliner today and they said the radiator cap was not sealing properly, so coolant was being dumped out through the overflow tube. So now we get our 2nd coolant system flush in three months. Oh well.

I didn’t take many pictures this time, but I attached a few of them here. Hope to see other Forum members and friends out there next month.

Kev may have been the only one to get sunrise pics. So peaceful that I slept through them  ;)
I got some great sunset shots though. And oh the stars! We saw numerous satellites and a couple meteorites.

Tremendous  views, great people, meeting new friends, Nightly campfires, fire-baked cherry pies, happy hour beverages (including snowshoe shots), four mile hikes through the desert all made for a great time.

Jeff, the generator section is adjacent to the Border Patrol checkpoint where you exit Hwy 95. I told them you'll be parking in the secondary inspection area, so they're expecting you. (You might want to make sure your papers are in order)

Today's weather report said Santa Ana winds are supposed to be here (San Diego) starting Friday. It's hard to say what that can mean for KOFA. I didn't hear how strong they're supposed to be, but we won't be crossing the I-8 pass if they're predicted to be strong. It's not unusual for the CHP to close the pass to high profile vehicles when they're strong. Hopefully, they won't be, and we'll get to KOFA Friday night. Safe travels everyone.

Kev

Looks like they’ve dropped the Santa Ana warning for the San Diego area, so we’re heading out Friday night. They’re forecasting an 80% chance of rain on Saturday, for the Quartzsite area, but it’s supposed to be sunny and clear starting Sunday. Sounds perfect.

Well, I came close.  Got all our crap done in Arkansas this past week, the house is gone, the money is in the bank and our last doctor appointment is today.
Not pulling out until Monday morning due to some family stuff over the weekend.  We'll probably be in KOFA for a couple of nights when we get to the Q, but a couple of weeks late.  We're taking the scenic route this time instead of just blasting across I-10 or I-40.
Sorry to hear I might miss the wind...not.

Arrived back in KOFA around 11 this morning. The drive from Yuma was in light to moderate rain. We turned off of  Hwy 95 on to Kings Road River.

All's well now as the sun is out and the dust is settled.

We had a great turnout for the February KOFA rally. Some came for a few days at the beginning, some came later, and some were here for the entire time. We're all flexible! It was wonderful to see everyone again and to meet a few new folks. KOFA is one of my favorite places to camp. Our weather was variable with a rainy day, some windy days and some nice sunny days. I believe it is the greenest here that I have seen it. The saguaros are fat and happy and lots of wildflowers are blooming. Here are a few photos - we never did get a group photo however  :(
