Just wanted to share info on a wonderful spot called the Paton Center for Hummingbirds. It's located in Patagonia, AZ about an hour south of Tucson in upland woodland habitat. The Patons moved into a home there in the 1970s and started planting trees, bushes etc. and the birds came. As the birds came so did the birders and they opened the property to all who wanted to visit. It's now managed by the Tucson Audubon chapter and they have visitors from all over the world. The property has benches everywhere and canopies with benches surrounded by feeders that draw the birds. Just sit, and they will come. There are trails to walk. Extra bonus, a well-behaved javalina visited just close enough for good views.
I saw 14 different species in under 2 hours - with 7 new ones for me including the violet crowned hummingbird, broad-billed hummingbird, and Anna's hummingbird. Also lesser goldfinches, black vulture, white-breasted nuthatch, yellow rumped warbler, and green sided towhee. There is a docent in the main area and today's was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in locating and identifying the various birds. The drive along AZ Hwys 82 and 83 was gorgeous as well.
