We spent a couple of days at the St. Louis West KOA last June. A typical KOA, near 6 Flags and I-44. Worked for us since we were visiting relatives on the SW side of town.
Since I am from St. Louis, I try to go back every year to see the town, eat the food and catch up with old friends. I have a friend that lives in Fenton, not far from the KOA and he has attempted to talk me into staying there every year when we return so it will be closer to him. Every year, I check the KOA and find their rates to be $10-20 per night higher than 370 and they won't give you the seventh night free if you stay a week, whereas 370 will. So my friend continues to drive to St. Peters if he wants to see me while we're in town - LOL. That KOA is better than some I've seen and it has an off-leash dog park, something that I look for since we travel with three dogs. But it still doesn't hold a candle to 370 Lakeside's park.
If you are heading SW, the KOA will be in a better location, but if the direction isn't important, 370 would be the better choice. Max, if you're going to head toward New Orleans after leaving St. Louis, you'll head south on I-55. Coming from Springfield, your fastest route will be to stay on I-55 through St. Louis. The only parks near your route are the city park in the middle of downtown, and it's basically a concrete parking lot so if you have pets, that could be a problem, and the Casino Queen. If you are concerned with how far out of the way you'll need to go to find a good park, 370 may not be the best choice for you because it is in the next county, probably about 15-20 miles out of your way. If that is the case, the Casino Queen will be your best bet if you don't mind staying in East St. Louis, which has an extraordinary crime rate. The 370 and the KOA are probably equidistant from I-55 but on opposite sides of the area, one being NW and the other being SW.
If you're going to be there for three nights, you might want to make it down to the Hill in St. Louis city if you like good Italian cuisine. Since so many of the restaurants in Little Italy have closed in New York City, I believe the Hill now is one of the most famous spots for good Italian cooking in the country.
