Hello all--
We will be spending two days, staying at the Elk lodge RV in Trinidad. Given COVID/social distancing, wondering if people have best of tips for what to do with our two kids (7, 10). Any relatively simple must do hikes? Easy drives with the RV (30 foot, no toad).

Welcome all advice!

Are you planning on driving Ave. of the Giants, CA 254? There is lots of turnouts that you can pull off and walk in the trees. And when you look up at those giants it is awe-inspiring. Stop by the Humbolt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center https://humboldtredwoods.org/visitor-center (might be closed, Covid) and spend couple hours. I seem to remember a few parking spots along the road and a couple nearby that you could walk back to it.

The road is narrow, curves around trees that are right next to the road (and they show battle scars) but it can be done. And worth the drive.

Weren't you asking about Salem and Crater Lake?  If you have the time head to Gold Beach, OR and take a fun ride on the jet boats. You will have a blast and you will get wet and you will want to do it again. https://www.roguejets.com/  Take at lest the 80 mile trip. The meal stops have decent food and the prices won't break the bank. The parking lot at Jerry's should accommodate you, but ask.

We stay at Kimball Creek a few miles up river, the boats stop there with reservations. http://www.kimballcreek.com/

Word of caution. If someone tells you to take the road (name skips my mind) from Galice to Gold Beach, DON'T. Way to easy to get lost up there and the road isn't suitable for your rig. Most maps and GPS don't show it as an option any longer.

2x on the Avenue of the Giants.  We recently took a trip there in a 37' class A.  We were able to get everywhere we needed - there are several stops that kids would enjoy.

Also 2x on the southern Oregon coast.  There are beautiful spots between Brookings and Bandon.

A good RV trip planning software like RVTripWizard will help vet camping locations.

Good luck!

As you drive by Freshwater Lagoon south of Orick, imagine being able to boondock in the large, wide parking area on the ocean side of the road and enjoy front door access to the beach.

This was the case for over 50 years.  People would come out from the hot Central Valley to enjoy a few days of cool coastal weather.  Then a new ranger in charge of Redwood National Park became annoyed by all of those ugly RVs fouling his view of the beach as he drove by going to and from work each day.  So he started a campaign to eliminate that tradition and within 2 years had closed the pullout to overnight camping.

Thank you all so much! Yes this is the same trip as Crater Lake:)
Will definitely do Avenue of the Giants and appreciate the advice on the pullouts. We will look into the river jet boat experience, sounds unforgettable!
Thanks all, what a great community.
