Shoot boy, according to the Trailer Life 2005 tables,  that rig could pull two of those trailers. ;D

Don't forget the weight distributing hitch and anti-sway system, tho.

I would not say over kill when it comes to getting a truck big enough to do the job.  There are too many instances where a truck is too small for what is being pulled.

Not really.  One of the funny things about towing is that a small engine may get 16 mpg unladen and 8 mpg towing.  A big engine may get 12 mpg unladen but gets the same 8 mpg towing.  Same mileage but a hell of a lot less nerve wracking, and lower maintenance.  My personal comparison is between a 5.0L in a Ford Bronco and a 7.5L Ford E-350 van.  Both got the same mileage towning the difference was that the van could tow 5000lbs of boat and trailer over the Grapevine Pass in Southern California in top cog with the airconditioner running, 6 passengers on board, right at the speed limit -- with throttle to spare

Good comparison Carl. We had a similar comparison when we went from an old Buick station wagon with 454/7.2L engine and no smog towing a boat to a Bronco with a 5.8L engine with full smog package. The old station wagon rarely changed out of high gear when it went over the hills.
