Hi folks,

Our RV just stopped producing hot water.  The "Pilot out" light for the water heater on the control panel is lit.

Is this likely because we ran out of propane?  The physical gauge on the tank reads about 3/8ths of a tank, but when checking the level of propane from the control panel both the "Empty" and "1/3rd" lights are on.

Do you need to keep the propane tank full enough in order for everything to operate properly?  Or is there probably something else wrong with our water heater?

Our RV is a 2004 Winnebago Adventurer 38G.

Thanks!
Daniel

Try to light one of your stove burners.
If it won't light you are probably out of gas

I don't think the water heater in your 2004 Adventurer has a "pilot light".  It should be DSI (Direct Spark Ignition) and light automatically as needed.  The Winnie brochure says that a 10 gallon auto ignition water heater is standard in he Adventurer.  I don't know for sure what "Pilot Out" could mean for this heater. Perhaps a call to Winnie Customer Service could get an explanation?

At a guess, the light means the water heater shut itself down after failing to detect a flame when the propane burner was operating. That is typically caused by rust flakes or insect nests in the burner tube. Crap in the tube disrupts the gas/air mix and it fails to light. A cleaning is usually all it needs.
