I was browsing through some of my pix and came across this one of a pair of pelicans. It was taken when we were camping at Boyd Lake State Park, just north of Loveland, CO.

Nice shot Larry.  I recall the first time we saw pelicans in the Western US and I was very surprised to see them.  We were at the Oxbow Bend in the Tetons.

Thanks for posting, Larry. I love pelican photos. Here area few more. They were shot in Everglades National Park.

Jackie, White Pelicans are found all over the west, There is usually a large breeding colony on Yellowstone Lake. The only time that I was really surprised, was when I found six of them on a very small lake, on the edge of Badlands National Park, which is extremely arid.

Here's one I took from my back porch, 5 pelicans in formation, circling. At times they were formed much as a military unit would, though they didn't stay that way for long. I've seen this in the neighborhood from time to time, but this particular time I had my Nikon handy.

Of course they look military. That's because a group of pelicans isn't a flock. Rather, you have  a squadron of pelicans.
Joel

As long as they don't come armed (except for that large bill)...  ::) ;D ;D

A marvelous bird is the pelican

His beak can hold more than his belly can.

He can store in his beak

                  Enough food for a week

And I don't know how the hell 'e can.

Thanks Joel.

Here are couple of mine...
