I am in search of information about road conditions on US 84 in New Mexico connecting I 40 and I 25.

It is a 2 lane US numbered highway so it should be fine.  You can go to Google Maps and follow the highway with satellite view and see just what it looks like.  You can even select the 360 degree ground level view to look at a specific section if you like.

It's decent road. not much to see. There aren't any decent fuel stops between Santa Rosa and Las Vegas, but that's only about an hour.
I can say from experience, though, it's a long walk. ;)

I can't comment on that one, but I did drive Hwy 285 (the next highway to the west) from Cline Corner to Santa Fe about 12 months ago and it is a good road.  Lots of signs warning about it being the deadliest stretch of highway in NM, but I saw no apparent reason, 2 lanes decent condition, reasonable shoulders, just nothing between Cline Corner and and I-25, some special event was going on about half way there, so probably more traffic than normal, but still fairly light traffic.

Also, it is long, tedious, boring, and people tend to go too fast. And there are rumors that alcohol may often be involved.
