Buying used trailer in the winter

Hi all -- going to buy my first RV (travel trailer) this winter when hopefully the price will be lower.  However, not sure how I can test the water heater or the AC (perhaps turn on the furnace, then the AC)? Are there other factors I'm not considering when looking at an already winterized unit for sale privately?
