Morro bay reservation
« on: September 26, 2007, 12:33:57 PM »
When I hit a blank wall with my Trailer Life directory, I come to your forum for tips.  Here is one for others, I don't know much about posting, but this kind of thing really irritates me.  We are staying at Rancho Colina RV Park in Morro Bay, CA.  We arrived late last night and parked in the spot that was posted for us at the office window.  This morning when I went to pay cash (they don't take Discover), I was informed that my reservation for a week would only be good for six nights and I would still have to pay the weekly price rate.  They had nothing available for the seventh night!  When I complained, I was told I could check out.  Is this even legal?  To be charged for a week, reserve a week and then told I could only stay six nights AFTER I have arrived, parked and paid for Internet service for a week?

I just want to scream.  We don't have much choice as I am visiting family and have arranged events for every day this week.

Do you have a written confirmation of your reservation?   What does it say?

I think if I had paid for 7 nights, I would stay for 7 nights.  What are they going to do about it?  I doubt that they would move you.

No, I've never heard of a written confirmation of a reservation.  It was made by phone.  Today is the day in question, and the manager is gone for the day.  Her employee says there is no problem with getting our seventh night here, the space is open for a week!  My husband says the manager must have had a "bad hair" day.  Still, is it legal to ask us to leave a day early when she took the money for a week?  Something has got to be wrong about that!

If you paid for a week, you should get to stay for a week.  Period.

That is the way I would look at it and if they wanted me to leave before the 7th day they had better get an eviction order. ;D

The space offered in an RV park is the goods provided by contract - if you enter into a contract with the park for a seven day period, then they are obliged to provide their side of that contract - ie, let you stay there, unless you do something that is noted in their regulations as against the contract.

If they determine that the contracted period was made in error, they are obliged to either:- Refund a part of your payment equal to one equally divisible part of the total (can't take one day rate off if cheaper by the week, and cannot suddenly charge you more because you aren't staying the week); or, honor the contract making allowance for the day that is disputed.

Not always necessary in Montana. In 2004 we were traveling with friends and stayed at what was then called Canyon RV Park in Hungry Horse, MT. Because of narrow sites and roadways as well as a poorly laid out sewer connection, our friends drove over the sewer connection and cracked the cement. The owner had a hissy fit and insisted my friend pay for the repair. When he declined, the owner called the police to evict him. My friend had a choice of leaving or being handcuffed and brought to jail. Since it was after happy hour, he convinced the police he was not completely sober so they told the owner he would stay overnite. I forgot the legal term, but in MT, the owner has the right to throw you out at any time for any reason. If our friend would have left when the police were first called, he would not have been refunded that nite's payment.

Was the "weekly" rate more or less than the daily rate times 6? On no account should you be charged more than 6 x the daily rate. In any event, you should let management know that you are not a happy camper and send something in writing.

Personally I almost never use reservations for a campground. If it is that crowded then I would prefer to be somewhere else. In the five years I have been full timing I think I may have made reservations 5 times. I think I may have ran into a full campground that I thought I was going to stay at maybe twice.

I have only been at this for 18 months but have stayed in 100s of RV parks and Walmart parking lots.  In the beginning I made reservations for a month out then because it is so hard to maintain a schedule exact I missed some of the dates.  Live and learn.

The past year I have not made a reservation more than 3 hours in advance and have stayed in RV resorts or campgrounds from coast to coast.  Once in Nashville the first campground I called from 2 hours out was full and they gave me the number of another one that had room and was closer to everything Nashville anyway.

About the only time we make reservations is for a rally such as at Moab.

Ron,

You're lucky you don't live in California. We've got some beautiful parks but in many of them -- especially this time of year -- you've got no chance without a reservation. I had to make a reservation at a Big Sur campground and RV park three months in advance. Actual state campgrounds sell out within MINUTES of going on sale SIX MONTHS from the date you want to visit!

I keep saying it. Gotta get out of this state. (Though, this is only one reason.)
