Naval Vessel Protection Zone

In case you were not aware, there is a "100 yard approach zone" around all naval vessels and you should travel at minimum speed when passing within 500 yards of a naval vessel.

I've found USCG escort vessel crew to be especially courteous and helpful when, for safety/draft reasons, I've needed to pass within the 100 yard zone. It's a little unnerving the first time you're escorted by a USCG vessel carrying a manned large-caliber machine gun, but it sure beats the alternative of not asking.
