Registration is open for Pomona February 25-28.

Does anyone have preferences for general parking or electric before we register. It was nice having a/c all day at Redmond but we also ended up parked next to a generator. ::)

Jeff, we'll probably be in generator, a/c shouldn't be needed.

Jeff,

We will go for the generator area as that time of year, AC is not normally needed.  That said, it will probably be Santa Ana conditions with lots of wind and heat!!  BG

I just finished registering for the general with electric parking.  At this time I am not sure if Linda will be coming, she is waiting for the list of seminars to see how much she is interested in.  I will be there for sure.

My wife and I plan to attend the FMCA Pomona rally but I need some advice...

We live about twenty minutes from the Fairplex. On one hand it would be simple and cheaper to simply drive back and forth to the event from our home. That would also free up a parking space for somebody's rig from farther away. On the other hand we understand that these events (we've never been to one) are a great opportunity to socialize and meet kindred spirits at the campgrounds.

The extra fee wouldn't break the bank but we'd still have to travel back and forth to home to take care of the dogs we'd rather leave behind.

What would you do? And, thanks in advance!

Dave,

Living that close and given the need for periodic trips back home, I'd be inclined to drive in daily. You can still socialize with other attendees, much of which will happen at seminars and the organized social events, dinners etc. You can also still visit with folks at their coach. OTOH if you need some work done on your coach, either by the manufacturer or one of the industry vendors, this is a great opportunity; In addition to teams of techs, they'll have lots of spare parts on hand.

Another thought, if you partake of libations, it might be best to fall into the coach at night rather than drive. Having your RV at the Fariplex also gives you a base should you not wish to to attend functions and have large gaps in your daily schedule.

If you take the coach to the event, that doesn't  mean you have to sleep in it. It does mean that you have a home at both ends of a twenty minute drive. Seems like the best of all worlds, to me.  ;D

How does it work with pets at the rally? In the FAQs it says they have to stay in your coach parking space? Does that mean you can't take them for a walk?

Wendy

Wendy,

I believe I've seen lots of folks walking their dogs at the rallies.

Wendy:

If we end up in the same general area as last year it is a few hundred feet to grass.

Are we going to meet at the Spotlight 29 (Trump 29) Casino in Indio to caravan in together?

We are, indeed, leaning toward keeping the rig home with the dogs. I appreciate the advice.

For anybody who has never been to the Fairplex in Pomona (home of the much too big L.A. County Fair) it is smack dab next to a very nice KOA if you like that sort of thing. In fact, you can walk through a gate at KOA into the Fairplex parking area reasonably close to a gate to the event.

Anybody who uses the car parking lot (as we will) will have to pay $8.00 daily parking fee and there is a shuttle ride to and from the exhibition area.

Coincidentally, I was talking just a few days ago with an RVer who told me stays at that KOA rather than stay at the Fairplex.

We too live just over the hill from the Fairplex in Phillips Ranch (part of Pomona), we have been thinking the same thing: to RV or not RV? We kind of wanted some technical information about our motorhome.  Although we are really disapponted that the rally is only throughout the week and not at least on one weekend.  We still work during the week with the exception of Tuesday.  The last Rally had a lot of good information.

It's beginning to look like we will skip FMCA Pomona this year. We were in Redmond last summer and there are a lot of other priorities for the winter. Haven't asked for a refund yet but probably will in the next couple of weeks.

Mike's decided to go to the Pomona rally. We'll be emailing our registration tomorrow for the generator area. I have no idea how this works other than what I've read and what Mike has told me. What seminars should we definitely go to? Which ones are easy to skip? (ok, I don't have a convection oven or a diesel engine so those choices are easy)

I'm cracking up reading about a/c.....we spent 2 hours shoveling snow off the drive way today so we could park the car on the drive. A/C? pffft

Wendy,
I would definitely go to the fire and saftey talk.  You will end up buying fire extinguishers but worth it.  Volunteer to be a demonstrator.  Also go to anything on the  Home Mat rugs, they are the best.

Betty

Wendy,

I'm with Betty.  Both of you should go to the fire and safety seminar and handling a fire extinguisher vs. hearing about it makes it worth attending.  And, yes, you will end up buying new ones!  ;)  We did!

Yep that is a fact.  One other thing it seems the ones that attend the fire and safety seminar have more fire extinguishers on board.  The bare fact is the extinguisher that came with the coach is pretty much useless when really needed.

I'll put the fire and safety seminar on my list but it will probably get bumped if there's something else at the same time that we want to attend. We just had a fire & safety class in Death Valley (including hands on extinguisher use) and Mike went to fire classes several times a year when he was with the NPS. On the other hand, we've never had any RV-specific fire/safety training so maybe......

A couple of firefighters in one of boat clubs used to run periodic fire extinguisher training. One of them trains firemen at oil refineries. They'd load up their boat with various types and we'd meet on an island in the Delta. For one demonstration, they'd set a pan of gasoline on the ground and light it. Then, everyone would take turns at trying to put it out. Here, Chris gets hands on training.

Of course, they'd also show how to put out fires involving different types of fuel and in close quarters, such as a boat or RV. But nobody offered their boat or RV for everyone to practice on  ;D

Edit: Oops, forgot to mention the whole point of this post, i.e. take the fire extinguisher training; It could save a lot more than your RV.
