We are doing some trip planning and thinking of spending some time in the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi. What we are interested in knowing is what are the humidity levels like once we get near the coast? We tend to like the dry climate in the Palm Springs area but we are looking for some new adventures and places to see and Texas seems like a nice diversion.

Not so bad in the winter but not so great in the summer. Texas coast is not dry like PS.

You didn't say when you plan to go which can make a huge difference. Hurricane season is from June to November. That area is definitely more humid because PS is desert and it's coastal.

Rio Grande Valley can get blue nothers in the winter and they are COLD.
We went to Padre Island a couple of times when we lived in San Antonio.....the breezes are usually off the Gulf and are wet almost any time of year...hot and muggy in summer.
It's not dry like the California desert but if you're looking for someplace new and different it would certainly qualify.

If you don't like the humidity then you might want to consider Big Bend Park.

Yup, like they all said above, it depends on the time of year. In the "winter" (from about Novermber through early March or so), it is still humid, but not nearly so much, and with the cooler temperatures, you certainly don't feel it like you do in the summer. It is actually quite pleasant. For example, today it's supposed to be in the low to mid 70's and absolutely gorgeous outside. Lows are in the mid 40's to low 50's. It can get pretty cold though, especiall with a breeze coming off the Gulf. And a couple of years ago, there was actually snow. Upwards of a foot of snow if you can believe it (around George West just up the road from Corpus)! It didn't last long, but provided some unique enjoyment for us this far south.
In the summer...fuggetaboutit! It gets downright ugly with the humidity. As you get closer to the coast (right on the beach for example), it doesn't feel quite as bad with the breeze from the Gulf, but it's still pretty H&H (hot and humid).
I can't speak for the Rio Grande Valley...haven't spent enough time there.

We just left Rockport, TX. Two days before Thanksgiving the temps were in the high 80's, with 80% humid. Then we had 4 days of rain with temps high 56, low 42. Bone chilling rain. It warmed up some and we had 70 during the day, and around 50 at night, with partly cloudy days. We managed to drive the first 30 miles of beach at Padre Island.
Last year we were here around the same time. And we have 7 days of perfect weather. We will come back next year.

We have spent the last four winters in the Rio Grande valley in the Mcallen area and we really love it. Most days in the winter the humidity is really low probably close
to as low as in the desert. At SPI and along the coast naturally there the humidity will be much higher.
We found the desert areas in Arizona and So Cal to be cold in the winter. The Rio Grande valley is not as warm as South Florida, but it is not as crowded either.
There are a lot more activities in the valley than we found anywhere in Arizona and So Cal.
We are on our way back for the winter. Today we are in Alabama.
