Just picked up a Targus Travel Stick USB 2.0 4-port hub from Wal-Mart for $12.88. Has wider-than-normal spacing between the ports (good for those wide memory sticks), and a short, about 4" (that's inches), main cord which would be perfect for laptop use. 480Mbps, port powered. Nice slim cylindrical shape, 3 ports on the side, one on the end.
