Karl's was readable but more difficult.  First, a message using only common everyday words is easy and second misspelled words make it more difficult.  Finally, misspelled uncommonly used words are the most difficult.

Jerry, you're absolutely correct. Thought it would be interesting to see how spill chuckers did with the first sentences of correctly spelled words.

First, the original sentences:
Dsleobuts, but cnolvuodet , uwkonnn, and acrihac dleiacitc pgleshooray mghit pvore tmolruobese. A wknriog kglewnode of the vraclboauy is nsstteeeciad.

Next, what it really said:
Doubtless, but convoluted, unknown, and archaic phraseology might prove troublesome. A working knowledge of the vocabulary is necessitated.

What our Forum software thought it should be:
Dissolutes, but convoluted , eking, and acrylic deistic plowshare mg hit pore tmolruobese. A Enrico gleaned of the vraclboauy is nested.

Finally, what MS WORD thought it should be:
Sellouts, but cnolvuodet , unknown, and archaic deictic plethora might pore tmolruobese. A wining kglewnode of the vraclboauy is nsstteeeciad.

As you can see, neither one scored highly, but I'd have to give the edge to MS WORD for "unknown" and "archaic". The Forum software gets the nod for creativity however, especially for substituting the name "Enrico" for "working"! Where did that come from?

If anyone uses different spell checkers, why not run the same (above, in red) sentences through them and post your results? Might be good for a few laughs :D

WordPerfect threw up it's hands and refused to find replacement words for anything but "pore" for "pvore"

I think the forum software deserves a reward for the "acrylic deistic plowshare" !!

For clarification and exoneration of "our forum software", the spell check feature uses a 3rd party GNU/OS package called Pspell (Portable Spell Checker Interface Library) installed on the server by our host, albeit at my request.

You guys (and gal, too, Wendy) have me laughing right out loud.  This is what happens when extremely bright people have entirely too much time on their hands!  ::)  Keep it up --- giggles make my day happy!  :D  :D  :D

Shayne, tell her you're taking a foreign language course online.

Just sounds like a conversation around the old campfire after a few too many glasses of wine or single malt! (Especially single malt!) ;D ;D ;D

Tom

Many thanks for the Stanley Unwin clip.  I hadn't seen or heard him in years.  It brought back many fond memories of listening to him on the radio on a wintery Sunday afternoons.  He was a unique and brilliant comedian.

A little off topic but something for the english majors to ponder over...punctuate the following:

That that is is that that is that that is not is not is not that it it is is it not

BT

You're welcome BT. I too enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

As for the punctuation test, I'll let the Amlish majors figure it out  ;D

OR:    That that is, is that that is. That that is not is not. Is not that it? It is, is it not?

Wouldn't a comma be appropriate in the second sentence: That that is not, is not.
