Once you have passed the sand dunes you might want to consider a trip north to Anza Borrego State Park. Borrego Springs is a little town in the middle of this park. There are a couple of campgrounds and also some boon docking areas. I think you might enjoy the area but getting off road will be difficult with your rig. Unfortunately I don't think you could make the trip to Font's Point which is quite spectacular. You would also have to keep a really close watch on the kids as it is possible to take one step too far at the cliffs.

Borrego Springs has three good RV parks in town.  The Palm Canyon RV Resort is probably the best for them.  (Nice swimming pool and hottub.)  Also the State Park has a RV cg nearby.  They will definitely want hookups -- temps were in the 90s (mid 30s C) on Friday.  No way should they do an offroad adventure even Fonts Point by themselves.  However, there are a number of Jeep touring services in town.

Hi all, thanks for the help. We are at Oceanside near San Diego but tomorrow plan to head to the Anza Borrego State Park.  Not sure which campsite we will stay in yet.  We may go to Joshua Tree after that, depending on time, as we have a few friends to meet in CA along the way.

Didn't hear from the Irish Visitors for a few days.........

Mike,

My guess is they don't have any way to get on line wherever they are. They haven't updated their daily blog since arriving in CA.

CA has swallowed them up.  I suspect those poor North Europeans are in Borrego Springs, CA where the current temp is 97?F and the relative humidity is 6%.    :(

Even a breeze is merely a hot blast that makes things worse.  All one can do in weather like that is to hide in an airconditioned space, drink much liquids and wait till the sun sets.

That said, LA weather is not much better.  UCLA registered 92?F yesterday.

Not much relief for Borrego Springs until Tuesday, when it cools down to 83F.

Hazel's last blog entry ,about a week ago, said they had reached the Pacific Ocean and were staying at a PA park in Oceanside.  I hope she's back online soon.  I really enjoy reading what the family is up to.  :)

I'm hoping they found space in one of the campgrounds since the rental company chargers by the hour for genset use!!! I still think they just don't have internet access. Certainly not much in Borrego Springs unless you bring your own!!! ;D ;D

Actually the The Springs and Palm Canyon both have WiFi -- Palm Canyon charges $5 per day.  The San Diego Country Library at Borrego Springs mall has free internet computers for public use -- the best deal in town.

Hahaha,  nice to see you were all worrying about us.  We had no hookups for a week , so hence no blog posts.  We did indeed spend a few days in Anza Borrego, without hookups, but we were gone before it got too hot.  We were there three days and left on Thursday before the heat of the weekend.  We dry camped in various spots there and found it just fine with out air conditioning.  The ranger warned us it would be too hot at the weekend.  Ive just written a blog post about that trip, and will write another in the morning about Joshua Tree.

We stayed in White Tank campground, Joshua Tree, from Thursday till today (Sunday evening).  No hookups and it was fine until today when it just started baking, so we've moved on to  a PA park in 29 springs , just down the road.  The white tanks camp ground and Joshua Tree in general were stunning. I cant wait to write my blog post about it in the morning. Took so many photos I dont think theres space on my computer for them all!  On Tuesday morning we are off to Bakersfield to visit some friends.

Nice to see we were missed :)

Hazel, indeed you were missed.  Lorna and I really enjoy your blog and have been looking for updates all week.

Hi Hazel.

So glad you are having such a great trip!!! We were a little concerned when you left us since you had never done this before. You certainly have adapted quickly and seem to meet more people than most of us.

Now that it is getting hotter I would be careful when wandering around the desert. The rattlesnakes are probably starting to come out of their winter "hibernation" and might pop up unexpectedly.

Hazel,

Anythime you need a hookup in CA especially, go to a McDonalds.  There are several other fast food places, like usually Arby's, etc., that have free wifi.

Glad you are enjoying the trip,

Cindy, my librarian wife, assures me that the local public library is an excellent place for free internet access where ever one goes in CA and elsewhere.  That may well include wifi but will surely include internet computers.

Hey all, just checking in again.  If I sit in this one square metre of space in Death Valley here, and dont move a muslce, I can get wifi connection! LOL>  sitting outside a bar in one of the resorts here.  Just checking in.  arrived in Death Valley today and will be here 2 nights before moving on to Vegas.  Did someone mention its possible to sleep overnight in the casino car parks? Or was I imagining it?
