hi Folks,

Just checking in with you all again.  Still having a fab time here in the US.  Utah and Arizona were awesome.  Zion, Bryce and Monument Valley were some of the most amazing places we've seen.  Right now we are in Montrose, Colorado.  Im loving the scenery in Colorado and want to live here!  Not sure where we are heading next.  We are having a few days of rest and then will head to Arches in Utah somehow.  We have about 7 weeks of our 5 month trip to complete.  Its been such an adventure.

Today we will be writing a very special blog post (will be on in about 30 mins) so do check that out.  Our blog

I hope everyone is well and that the rally went well.

Hazel, Steve and the gang.

Good to hear from you again.  Nice picture of Monument Valley.  Here's another view from about the same place that we use for the desktop wallpaper on the notebook.

All four of the Four Corners states are beautiful. Glad you're enjoying our lovely corner of the country. Stop at Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction if you get a chance.

Thanks for checking in.  Glad you are enjoying your adventure.  Yes the area you have been visiting is very scenic with lots to see. Arches is a very neat place too.  There is a reason the Rally at Moab was held 8 years in a row.

CONGRATULATIONS.  What a great way to tell the children.  Also glad to hear that you have been feeling great.  I tried to get to your Monument Valley pictures and found that we would have to join Facebook which was different from the rest of your pictures.

That was surely a very important blog announcement.  :D  CONGRATULATIONS to you both and to the kids, too.

Ok, Ive fixed that link now. I must have typed it wrong the first time.  You should now be able to view the photos without joining facebook.

Hazel

Thanks.  The Monument pictures are really great.  The campground you are at in Montrose looks like the same one we stayed in last spring when we went to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  Glad that you are enjoying the Rockys.  The spring flowers should be popping out about now.  When you go to Moab there is a cutoff from I-70 that follows the Colorado River.  The first part is boring but it becomes much more interesting and beautiful.  At exit 214 you will be on 50 to Hwy 128.  We have driven it a number of times with the coach and toad.  Enjoy.

Hazel,

Let me add my congratulations on your latest announcement.

BTW I activated the link in your prior message.

If you can't get into the Arches campground (and you won't unless you're in line before 7 a.m.), a great alternative is Goose Island campground on Hwy 128. No hookups but big sites right on the river and you can watch the Canyonlands By Night show without paying. And you're as close to Arches as you'd be at any private campgrounds.

Enjoy this beautiful part of the country.

Gosh, thanks for the tips.

Is there  a big holiday weekend coming up soon that we should be aware of?  I am suspecting theres one at the end of May where we may find ourselves without somewhere to stay.  Am I right?

It's called Memorial Day.  Monday May26th.  Lot's of folks take advantage of the 3-day weekend to travel.  It's the unofficial start of the summer travel season.

Memorial Day is to honor those who have died defending our country.

Memorial Day is coming up May 26 with that weekend pretty much full at popular parks.

As for Arches, it just fills up that early almost every day during the season, which won't end until it the temperature gets close to 100 degrees. Rangers start giving out available campsites at 7 am and if you're not in line before 7 am, you won't get a spot. We had people show up at Goose Island at 9:30 am saying that they were in line but were behind the 5 or 6 who got campsites. This is better than it used to be when you were in line at 7 am and charged up the road all the way to the campground, hoping to grab a site. Actually, if you get to Goose Island in the early afternoon, you can grab a very nice spot there and then spend the next day touring Arches.

Hazel, Steve, and the kids,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That is quite a news story! Glad all is still going well with you and the trip. I've read all of your blog so far. Love the photos you have taken. I haven't had time to look at all the albums but do enjoy the ones you post.  "Grandma" was quite surprised with your announcement. :)

Enjoying reading your blog and seeing someone else's perspective on our beautiful part of the country. Too bad I didn't read it a couple of days earlier, we could have told you about a couple of cheaper campgrounds near Mesa Verde.

And congratulations !

p.s. The town you drove though on the San Juan Skyway drive is "Telluride"

It's supposed to be 10-12 degrees cooler tomorrow. Maybe today would be a good day to make a trip up into the LaSal Mountains?
