Bill, Im north of ya in Bouse, been here a couple of weeks.  Hope to get down to Quartzite today and finally take a look around.  Heard that book store was one of the best book stores around but nothing else about it.  If and when I do get down that a way I will wander over to where the folks are usually camped and see who all is around.

Hey Bill I came thru, sorry could not locate your location did make a long drive  all around Tyson Wash.  As for a bookstore I found 6 tents with big yellow signs that said bookstore and saw no buildings with bookstore written on them.  After looking in one, I found that I have more books here in the rv for reading than he was selling I did not bother to look at any of the others.  Wife was very disappointed too since the town was one big flea market as she put it and the prices could be beat at any truck stop along the highway.  LOL her words not mine.  We did not stay long and returned to the rv.

I'm tip-toeing into this conversation, choosing my words very carefully.  :D ::)  Also, my information is a couple of years old by now.

The legendary Quartzsite bookstore is no longer housed in tents west of "the" intersection.  It moved to a location on the east end of town near Bealls.  He does (did) have a very complete inventory and is a very knowledgeable bookseller.  His fame, if you want to call it that, comes from his choice of attire, or lack of it to be more specific.

Rumor has it that they have asked him to be a little more discreet in his choice of (or lack of) clothing this year.  We used to call him "The Loin Cloth Man", but when he increased his (ahem!) exposure further, we began calling him Sad Sack.

It will be interesting to hear what you all have to say about the changes in Quartzsite this year.

Where is your RV?  My place is just south of Kuehn, on the right.  On 95 south.

I haven't seen the legendary bookstore to date.

After we closed up tonight my buddy and I ran up to Parker, had the buffet at the casino.

Margi, only you could come up with such an eloquent choice of words for describing our beloved "loin cloth man".    ;D  I had a good belly laugh over that one!

Daisy

Thanks, Daisy.  He sure used to give me a good case of the creepy-crawlies.  ::)  I remember focusing ALL my attention on this face.  :D  To be fair, he always helped me find the books and authors I was looking for.

Margi

Jim,

That's for them to know and you to try to find out!  ;)

We are in  the Desert Pueblo RV Resort #80 just south of Bouse near Joshua Dr going over to La Posa Rd.
DId not know you were near Kuehn thought you were at the Tyson Wash site where most the members here in the forum I thought were going.
I will go back to Quartzite when my  guide gets back from Utah.  My nieghbor here is also my neighbor back in Utah but he is at a funeral there today.
Definitely will make a run to the Casino at Parker, I luv a good buffet.

I was so looking forward to QZ however my Doctor says lets wait a year before you take on that kind of a trip.  My heart attack did some damage but the chamber that was affected is not showing much loss of volume. He just does not think I should travel that far and especially alone only a little over a month after a heart attack.

So Bob,  Sorry but Willie and I will have to wait a year.  With the present cold snap here in Portland Oregon and temps in the single digits makes my old bones yearn for warmer spot to park.  But here I am and I will really try and make it next year.

On a bright side I may have a lady friend and she might want to make that trip next winter.  She retires in September next.  I just met her so a lot of water has to run over the highway before Willie will want to share our home.  LOL

Another side note, I am learning about the cold weather RV lifestyle.  Just have to take a trip to the propane store about twice a week.  I am only filling one tank at a time because I dang sure don't want to run out in the middle of the night with temps in the teens and 40 mph gusts.

Sorry to hear that your doctor advises against travel to QZ thhis year.  Best to follow the docs advise.  Hope all continues to heal.

Ken,

You might want to consider renting a 100lb propane tank. Not sure if there are any services in your area that will do that but it sure would cut down on your trips to the propane dealer. Of course, they aren't easy to move. Many people do this in campgrounds where they will take care of filling it for you.

Ken - Sorry you and Willie won't be in Q in January but we'll be looking for you in 2010. In the meantime, stay warm and do whatever the docs tell you to do.

Bob:

Sorry for the late response.  The Admiral (Sharon) and I just wrapped up our most exciting and busy year of full timing ever and we are ready to kick off 2009 with QZ.  Miss you ole buddy and glad to hear you doing so well with your hips.  I can't tell you how much Sharon and I miss getting kicked out of Kaiser.  We tried to get them to let us join Kaiser in CA but they said no go. CA could only be used on an emergency basis  if we were members (requiring residency) in Maryland.  So reluctantly we joined United Helathcare and it really sucks.  And since we can't find anything better than UHC, that should say something about how wonderful Kaiser is.

We miss all the forum folks and look forward to the oppotunity to reinvigorate many old friendshps and acquire new ones.

Wendy, after I post this message I am going to look further at the Rally section of the forum and find out when your Death Valley rally is.

Also, could anyone help us pin down the dates of the QZ rock and gem show?  I am heading up the lapidary this year at Pueblo RV Resort and am most anxious to attend the show.  We are also into treasure hunting with our new Garrett metal detector.

Anyone attending with their ham radios?  We plan to set up W3PY on a G3RV wire antenna.

Will there be a golf outing at Emerald?  If so I'll save room for golf clubs.

Bob .. we tentatively plan to arrive the day before your official date, and we are planning a 2 week trip, depending on Death Valley Days <g> and on the Rock and Gem show.

Please somebody, where do I get the dates of the Rock and Gem show and is it in the big tent or elsewhere?

This year I won't be looking for the yellow clip on sun glasses.  I bought ten of them at Shipsawanna at $4 a piece, so that should last me another year.  ;D

Wendy and Bernie:

We responded to Bernie's Death Valley Rally with a tentative yes.  It all depends on the QZ Rock and Gem show.  We are still trying to get info on that event.

Oh yes, also on the distance involved.  We are running on a pretty tight fuel budget, though current prices are encouraging.  Reminds me I need to fuel up the coach this week to get my monthly run under load.
