HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY - THE BIG 60
« on: August 22, 2008, 09:38:03 AM »
Earlier this AM my Outlook tickler teminded me of your birthday and I waited until now to ask you how you were going to celebrat your big day.

Any plans yet? Any good theatrical productions in Charlottown? I saw Ann of Green Gables there in '70, one of the first productions in the new venu.

Thanks Ned but I don't qualify for Social Security. I paid in to State Teachers Retirement (STRS) and started taking it 5 years ago.  I will get Medicare however.

Bob,  Anne of Green Gables will play tomorrow night but I don't think we will have enough energy after our big coastal drive on East Coast of PEI..  5 lighthouses, several beaches and a winery are on the list. We are leaving the evening open to see what we feel like.

Jeff, I am already requesting and receiving the senior discount. It is  so sad to not be carded when asking for the discounts.

Thank you to everyone for the  birthday wishes.

Betty

Enjoying the last day of  my fifites!

Happy Birthday, Betty!

I remember when you were a young whippersnapper (still working) and all of us "old folks" were wishing you were just a little older so that you could join us right away in our new lifestyle.  Now you're 60?  I don't believe it!  When did that happen???  ;D

Happy Birthday, Betty!!!!

I'm a couple of years ahead of you and will get SS soon, as well as, my nifty America the Beautiful Senior Pass in September.  I remember when I was dreading turning 60, but I sailed right through it.  Turning 50 was a real hard one for me.  The highlight of the 50th birthday was falling off the other side of my horse as I was getting on.  Made me worry about the next 1/2 century of my life. ;D

Whoop it up!!!

ROTFL Marsha! Oops, sorry, I shouldn't laff. I couldn't even get up on a horse to be able to fall off the other side.

Here's Chris' maiden voyage on a horse.

So that's where Chris learned her riding skills...on a big draft horses.  What we call those big guys "gentle giants".  They are wonderful to ride.

Yeah, falling off of my horse was a real insult.  I was wearing "chaps" which are leather protectors that go over jeans or riding pants.  I climbed onto a rock, swung my leg over the saddle and the leather of the chaps gripped the leather of my saddle causing me to go head first off over the opposite side of the horse.  Horse was great tho, just stood there looking down at my as if I were a silly fool.

To help prevent thread drift....happy birthday again, Betty.

Marsha fell off her horse??? ROFL. And Tim didn't get a picture?

I didn't mind 50. 55 I didn't like (55 is the "senior" age at Denny's). My Mom turning 80 seemed to bother me more than my own age. Go figure.

Happy Birthday again Betty. Hope you're having a wonderful day.

Speaking of birthdays, I was looking at the calendar and noticed that in January Steve CDN will be 137? Do they do birthdays different in Canada?

Marsha,

The photo was taken in the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. Chris is always ready to try something new and, since our adult daughter wanted to go horseback riding, Chris said "me too". What I couldn't find was the photo of the steps they moved the horse to so Chris could get on  ;D

Thank you to all birthday well wishers both public and private.  It was a hard day for me.  This age thing just really hit hard today, so your well wishes were most welcomed.  Every year on my birthday I miss my parents terribly.  I'd like to thank them for raising me and I miss them calling me to wish me a happy birthday.  Mom died when she was only 65, dad at 70  so I now really really feel, life is short!

We took a long drive around the East Coat of Prince Edward Island.  Stopped at a dozen or more light houses, 1 winery (the only one on the island) and saw many  lovely farms and fishing coves.  It was a beautifully sunny day.  In the spirit of being homesick I tried a Mexican restaurant here in Charlottetown.  It was pretty good.  They had margaritas, fajitas and lizards on the wall.  Not quite as good as our favorite Mexican restaurants "back home", but isn't that always the case?  We will see a dinner and show tomorrow to extend the birthday by one more day.

Again a heartfelt thanks to framily and forum friends I haven't yet even met!

Tim for  the wishes but my birthday is actually in late August.  I think you replied to a very old post.  But then I can consider  your wishes early.  EXCEPT that I will be 61 coming up next birthday.  Still kicking and that is a good thing.
