If you use Gmail, especially over public internet connections or unencrypted WiFi networks, you'll want to enable the new security feature.  Click on Settings in Gmail and on the General tab scroll to the bottom and check the box that says "Always use https".  This will force all the Gmail connections to be secure and protect against "man in the middle" attacks.
