when i plug in the trailer my lights work.
but when not plugged in the lights don't work.
but when not plugged in the slide out does work so its not the battery.
i'm new to all of this looked at power panel did not see anything wrong.
thanks mike

There are a couple of posibilities that come to mind

First, Is this a motor home or a trailer.. On a motor home the slide outs may run off either the chassis or the House batteires,, Mine runs off the house but some run off the chassis battery.

Second, you may have a battery disconnect.. for assorted reasons the slide outs may be connected BEFORE the switch

Finally what make and model converter do you have... Some of them, like the one I have, are hooked in parallel with the batteries, others however hook between the battery and the main fuse panel... In these converters there is often a "Reverse Polarity" fuse, which may blow if it gets old or if the battery is bad, not just installed backwards.  Post make and model for more info on that

Finally we get down to power tracing.. Post if you need help there.

its an 2004 coachman cascade travel trailer 38 tbs.
im not sure but i think there is only one battery.
im gonna go look again and see what i can see.
again im new at this

Ok, trailer, one battery,, so, how about the rest of my post.

Trailers are MORE LIKELY to have fuses on the converter These may or may not be in the fuse panel, some times they are hidden.

You may also have a circuit breaker somewhere that needs resetting

Mike,

Does anything work at all when not plugged in? If you have any vent fans, try them. Also, you should have power to the refer control panel and the furnace is also run on 12V. You may have a bad fuse in the panel. I now you said you looked at the panel but did you test the fuses? There's also a possibility of a 30amp fuse located at the battery on the positive lead. Normally the slide would not work if this is blown but we don't really know how the manufacturer wired the coach.

well i whent back out there yesterday.
and checked the panel with a meter no power at all.
i checked where the 12v comes in i didnt have time to do much more.
hopefully get home early rommorow .
i found a 4" square box at the front near the battery.
power goes in then out.
maybe there is something in there or the fuse at the battery.
boy it gets dark early now.
thanks again mike

Mike,

You might have a loose connection at that box. Hard to say without being there but keep on checking and let us know what you find.

it was the fuse at the battery.
when i looked at it it looked fine.
but when i put a meter on it nothing.
so got another one and had to clean the fuse holder thingy.
now the lights work from 12v.
the other box i saw was where the trailer plug ties into the power.
