We had a member of the Southfield Veterans Commission (Southfield, Michigan) talk at our church today.  They are documenting the military experiences of Southeastern Michigan WWII veterans.  They bring the veteran into the Southfield Library and film the veterans as they relate their military experience during that time period.  So far they have recorded over 80 veterans.  They will be picking up 4-5 more from our parish.  They keep one CD of the interview at the library, one (or more) goes to the veteran, and one goes the the National Library where it is posted on their web site.  He said there are similar projects going on all around the country.  The project started out just focused on the City of Southfield veterans but was expanded when they realized that they were the only organization doing this in the south eastern Michigan region.
