Ive just come across a website for overland bus tours from London to Kathmandu - it's a fascinating read.

I dont think anyone would fancy taking that route these days though !!

The trip typically took 7 weeks and cost approx $350 - including campsites, food and various lodgings along the way.

Im not too sure how comfortable that bus would have been for day long drives - the buses in Malta are the same and you wouldnt want to be on these for more than an hour.

I bet it was a great trip.

Ah yes, the famed Hippie Highway of the 70's.  Knew a number of folks, mostly Aussies who made the journey.  First wife and I seriously thought about driving it ourselves in a VW camper van.  Just ran out of time so we did not do it.  Wish I had though.
