I called Verizon at *611 and they knew what I was talking about when I mentioned the discount code #117818 and told them it was listed under Government employee in their computer.  The announcement stated Verizon wireless and the persons I talked to knew about the discount for wireless customers.  ......You might want to try again but take the discount code number with you.

Ron,

I am not sure whether when you talk about Verizon wireless that you are talking about wireless phone service and/or Verizon's Broadband Wireless service. If you are talking about Broadband Wireless service, I will take the discount code back to the Verizon store and see what I can find out about getting the discount on my broadband wireless service. The fellows that I talked to yesterday both seemed positive that broadband wireless service did not qualify for the discount. They both seemed quite knowledgeable about the discount plan, probably because we have a large Air Force base here. However, any item purchased in the store for my modem or related to my broadband service would qualify for a 25% discount.

Has anyone else been successful in obtaining the discount on their Verizon Broadband Wireless service?

Richard

The anouncment states Verizon Wireless service customer.  I was talking about our cell phone coverage when talking to Verizon and never mentioned anything about broadband service. However to me seems cell phone service is wireless as ir wireless broadband.  We may be in Great Falls tomorrow and I will ask.  Could very well just be the cell phone service.

We went to a Verizon store in Huntington Beach, Callifornia, today and asked about the discount, giving them the discount code. The employee went to ask his supervisor and came back and said that it was an old promotion that they don't give any more. We asked him to check again and he came back with the supervisor who said that the system showed that code as for active military. We said that Verizon *611 and online support knew about it and that we had friends in other places in the country who received the discount as veterans. The supervisor then said "ok" and processed the discount somehow. He did say that it would probably take a billing cycle before it shows up. He also said that there would be a 25% discount on any accessories purchased.

If only they had a phone back to replace the one I lost in Qtz.......oh well.

Ron et all.....

Got my discount today in Issaquah, WA (suburb of Seattle). The discount number did them no good, but the manager (ex Marine) did know that it was possible, and after about 20 minutes they were able to find the "code". I only spent 2 years (VN draftee), but it didn't matter, just take in your DD214. I just took it for granted that it included wireless, wish I had asked. They said it would be active next bill, will find out then.  I asked for an additional 5% for the training sesion they had just had  ;D, but thay gave me a polite laugh and shook my hand and thanked me for my service.

Thanks Ron

FWIW, neither of us had our DD214s handy but Mike did have his VA card which was fine.

I went to the Verizon store today. Although I am retired military with an ID card, they didn't want that. They wanted to see a copy of my DD 214. I was told that I would be getting a 15% discount off my total bill which for me includes wireless data and cell phones.

Don't know how long the discount has been in effect but I wish I knew about before. Thank you for posting this info.

I was told that the discount was off my entire bill, but there was no mention of a discount off of purchased equipment -- and I bought a phone and accessories.  :-\

25% off all accessories is part of the discount program.

Ron,

Thanks for this info!  When I called Verizon 611 it took the rep about 10 mins to research it, and she confirmed the info.  She also said if I went to www.verizon.com/discount that I could print out the pertinent forms and fax them back.

Haven't tried it yet - am way out in the SE BLM wilds of Q.  I'll be in Desert Hot Springs CA in a few days and will do the process then.

Bruce,

When you get your first statement with the discount applying to both your cell phone and wireless broadband service, will you post that fact. This afternoon I called a different Verizon store here in Tucson than the one I went to yesterday to apply for my discount and was told the same thing as yesterday--the discount does not apply to broadband service. However, the fellow I talked to today didn't seem as knowledgeable as the fellows who processed my discount application yesterday, so who knows.

Thanks. Richard

Hey, Ron. You done good, starting this thread!  ;D

I already had my AT&T discount, and probably should have mentioned it, long ago. Didn't think of it.  :(  ::)

You did think of it, and look at the money you saved this group!  8)

I'm sending you a big ol' pat on the back!  ;D

I've been spreading the word, and my Dad just checked with Sprint, and lo and behold, they also have a discount.  He said he went through 3 customer service reps (one with the "online chat", and 2 after dialing *2...Sprint's version of *611), but he finally got someone who knew what to do.  They were going to send him an e-mail with more details, but I haven't seen that from him yet.  I"ll update as I can.  I'm about to call them myself as I also have Sprint.

Jayne -  Tried your link and got the following message under the Verizon header:

"We're sorry....
We are not able to process your request. To continue, please select
one of the following options:

Return to the previous page.
View the verizon.com site map.
Go to the verizon.com home page. "

Will try again later to see if the results might be different.  Does anyone know how one tells a Verizon corporate store from a non-corporate store?  Our switch from Sprint to Verizon was processed in a Verizon kiosk in the Roseburg, OR mall.  As far as I know it's the only show in town.  Verizon is not even listed in our DEX yellow pages.  We had the discount when we were with Sprint and I didn't think to inquire about it when we signed with Verizon.

I went to the VW store this afternoon, they scanned the first two lines of my DD214 and voila!  All is good!

I went to the local Verizon store two days ago (2/2) to apply for the discount. My billing date is the 2nd of the month and I didn't expect the discount to go into effect until next month. Today, I got an online notice that my bill had been posted. I checked it and found a $6.00 discount for my $39.99/mo cell phone service but no discount on my broadband data service.

I'll wait for Bruce to post that he got the discount on his data service and do some more checking.

Richard

I also sent Verizon an email asking if they did the same discount for their "regular" service.  I haven't gotten a response yet.  I have their dsl on a dry loop and wouldn't mind saving a couple more bucks if I could.

Margi,

Sorry the link didn't work.  I would have verified before posting the info if I'd had my Hughes dish up.  I do now, and didn't get much of anywhere on the site about the discount.  ::)

Here's the e-mail my Dad got after applying for the discount with Sprint:

Dear Customer,

Congratulations! This note is to confirm that the discount of 15% has

been successfully added on your account against the monthly recurring

charges.

You can view this discount on your next invoice for the bill period

ending March 03, 2009 under the heading "Service Discounts/ Charges"

with the description "Employee Discount Sprint/Nextel."

The discount does not apply on the Connection Card Data plan of $59.99.

Thank you for choosing Sprint!
