2009 Texas Hill Country Rally
« on: February 17, 2009, 11:16:01 AM »
Ned and Lorna invite all of you to join us at the Spring Branch RV Resort April 1-7, 2009. No special plans - just make a reservation and show up for some fun!

Spring Branch RV Resort is located on Texas Hwy 281 about 30 miles north of San Antonio, TX. All sites are full hookup 30/50A pullthroughs and the park is satellite friendly. Amenities  include clubhouse & pavilion, large community fire ring (provided the burn ban is off), and very clean restrooms and laundry.

The address is 10950 Hwy 281 N, Spring Branch, TX.  Toll free: 866 542-2110 or Office: 830 885 2491.  E-mail address:  sbrv@gvtc.com
Website:  www.springbranchrvresort.com

You can make the reservations online at their website or call for the Hill Country RV Forum Rally.  In the comment section state the size, type of rig, and number of people.  He will give a discount if we get 6 or more rigs.  Please post a reply on this thread if you are coming.

Ned and I spent two months there last spring and found the park to be very nice and friendly.  It is convenient to many sightseeing places.  Only an hour or so to San Antonio, Fredericksburg, and Johnson City.

We sure wish you could be here too.  We know Nancy is going to come through all of this and you can do another one next fall or spring in the Hill Country.  This is a really nice campground minus a swimming pool but that is okay since most of us don't use a pool when we are at a rally.  Anyone wanting to have mail sent it is convenient to the Spring Branch Post Office which is between the highway and the campground.

Too soon to fully commit, but we will try to make it work.  We still have to make a mad dash up to Ottawa some time in March to meet with a new grandchild that's due to make an entrance over the next few weeks.  Once that has been accomplished, birth and trip, we will be able to plan the rest our trip

Looks like our spring and early summer plans are on hold till the kids confirm just when thay will be here.  Sure will make it easier for them to come to Sam's camp since they started air service between Lewistown and Denver.

Only 6 weeks away!  WOW!  It is that time of year again.......

Mary Ann, totally healthy again, and I have an appointment for some service/repairs at the Tom Johnson dealership in Marion, NC
on or about March 15, then (as of today) plan to "head west".  Should be able to make it to this Rally!

Look forward to seeing Ned and you and whoever else shows up!

We're hoping, but the timing is a little tight. We can't leave Goodyear before March 1st and have to be in Perry on the 11th. Not much time to stop and smell the flowers.

I've got to pull the trailer with the truck, so we'll have a place to stay, so I can't drive it.

Betty could drive one down.  Lets see, that's about 180 miles @ 12mph, that's about 15 hours.  There isn't quite enough daylight, so she'd have to bring a tent and stay all night someplace along the way and leave a day early.  I've got to work on Friday morning and can't leave until after noon!!!  Na, I guess we better not bring one along.  It might cost me my cook!!!!

Larry

Looking forward to meeting you and your wife and glad you could come for a couple of days.  Please call the park and tell them you are with Texas Hill Country Rally.

All of the rest that said they are coming don't forget to call the park for reservations or reserve on their website.

We will probably have a potluck and hopefully the men will agree to do a breakfast for us one morning.  Was thinking of omelets in a bag.

There are a number of things that we can do as tourists if anyone is interested.

Yesterday I stopped at Spring Branch RV Resort and talked to Robert, the owner, and he said that if you are planning on attending the 2009 Hill Country Rally to reserve now because they fill up on the weekends.  So far we only have two RV's reserved and three more that are planning on attending.  If you think you can attend, even for a couple of days, reserve now and if you can't make it you can cancel later without any charge.  Robert will try to put us all together and that's part of the reason for reserving early.

To get the discount we must have at least six.  Please call the park to make your reservations or go to their website and reserve online.  Once you have reserved please post on this thread so we know too.  Thanks.

Here is a list of the those reserved and those that are planning to come.

Ned and Lorna Reiter - Texas and Wisconsin
Larry Miller - Texas
John and Jane Canfield - Texas and Florida - Planning on coming
Don and Mary Ann Nesbitt - North Carolina - Planning on coming
Ray and Ladonna Baginski - Tennessee - Planning on coming

We're on our way --- sort of -----

Left Cary, NC yesterday and after battling rain, mist, and fog, we made about 250 miles -- through NC and almost out of SC.

As we went through the leveling process we found that we had a dead jack (electric by Power Gear) and not the first!  Maybe later I'll start a thread on our our ongoing electric jack poblems.

Tom Johnson Camping Center, located in Marion, NC, about 30 miles east of Asheville right off I-40, is the dealer from whom we bought our motorhome, though we dealt with the Concord, NC, (in the shadow of Charlotte Motor Speedway) location. Because of the high quality service and attitude we had experience with the Tom Johnson staff, we really wanted to get our repairs made there.

So, at 7:30 this morning, even knowing that the Tom Johnson service center was making appointments more than a month out, I called to throw ourselves on their mercy and beg that they fit us into their very busy schedule. I had no more described our situation to the service manager when he told me to "bring it on" and they'd get us worked in somehow. No mention was made of the 2 dozen gourmet doughnuts (from Dutchie Deb's in Marion) we dropped off on our way out the last time were here, or what a delightfully pleasant customer MMG was on our last visit, but when we arrived around noon, it was obvious that they remembered us fondly.

Thus it is that we progressed backwards today.  After making 250 miles yesterday, tonight we find ourselves leass than 180 miles from home!

We arrived at Tom Johnson's about 11:30. By 1:00 they drove our rolling home into the shop and around 5:00 delivered it back to us with a new jack and control panel.

We spent the waiting time in the "Lodge" which is complete with a 50" flat screen TV, numerous leather couches, a real fireplace, very fast wifi, and free coffee. Had some enjoyable conversation with other customers while it rained steadily all afternoon.

We're spending the night in the Tom Johnson campground a., because of the lousy weather and, b., to get a chance to test the repairs before we leave!

Tomorrow, after dropping off some fresh doughnuts, we'll be headed West! again!

Sorry to hear that you won't be able to make the rally :( , but hope your daughter's surgery goes well.  You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Don
Glad to hear that your problem was fixed and that you will be on your way tomorrow.  Looking forward to seeing both of you on Wednesday.

We only need one more rig to sign up in order to get the 15% discount.  The weather is looking good for next week but that has a habit of changing even though we really need the rain.  Looking forward to seeing everyone.  Drive safe.

Don:  I'm afraid that if you are bringing some of those great donuts they may be a bit stale by the time we all get there.  But come to think of it, if they are as good as you let on I doubt that they would make a trip that long anyhow.

George --

The donuts are already gone!

Lorna --

Maybe our two weeks would qualify as numbers 5 and 6......

Writing this from an Ingles (grocery store) parking lot in Blairsville, GA as we wait for a friend to join us for lunch.  After 2 1/2 days on the road, we finally got out of NC!

Ed --

Sorry to hear about your daughter's surgery.  Hope all goes well.
