Toad, or towed, is a car you pull behind your motorhome.  Sometimes called a dinghy.

Thanks Ned & Tom, I guess that I use toad so often that I just assume that everyone knows what I mean.

Personally, I would skip Montreal (keep for another trip) and go to Ottawa and Quebec City.  Lots more  to see and do and rich with  North American and Canadian history.  We spent about a week in both cities and enjoyed every day.

We made two stops Niagara on the Lake and Kingston.  Niagara on the Lake, just over the border by the Falls, the wife enjoyed a day of boutique shopping, and I carried the bags (a"chick city"!!).  Then spent some time in Kingston...enjoyed a dinner cruise amongst the 1,000 Islands...very nice.

Also, if you haven't visited the Finger Lakes Region in NY that is worth a stop and appears close to where you live.  You get to drink some NY wines, eat some good food, and stay at some real nice State Parks...centrally located in Wine Country.

Hi: Funny, you are the second person today who said go to Ottawa, and skip Montreal. I will look into that. I made my reservations for Quebec City at Camp Juneau but not for the second week.

You pooch looks about as enthusiastic as our McKenzie after a day in the coach.

Thanks. Sheila

Zoey loves to travel, although she is getting older and takes more naps..I guess that is true for me also!!

I think we stayed at Hither Hills(?) close to Ottawa.  It was OK not great...lots of seasonals who were packed in tightly and our space was fairly tight also.  There were some other sites that were nicer but we were just using the CG as a base camp and I didn't feel like changing. It was convenient, 15 min drive to Ottawa.  We ravel in 30 ft 5ver.

Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

Hello,

Irisheyes if you do come to Ottawa Hither Hills is a great base campground, not great but it is very close to the city and you can even go to the Bus Stop park the car and take one bus right down town, they have all of the brochures etc..at the office.  There is also a Slot machine Casino 5 mins from there and even if you are not gamblers they have a great buffet from Monday thru Wed for 9.99 for dinner and plenty to eat.  There are several museums downtown and it is generally a very pretty city (I live there) and actually I live 2 minutes from Hither Hills but again without a car there is not bus service from the campground but if I am around when you are here I can pick you up on my way to work and bring you back at the end of the day and you can have a great tour of the city by foot which once downtown is very easy to do.  Let me know via email when the time comes and I can be of assistance.  I also thought you should know Ottawa is approx 5 1/2 hours from Quebec City and Montreal is in between so you may as well see that lovely city as well on your way.

What a generous offer. We will probably not be towing a car; so, we either have to move the Winnebago each day or rent a car.  Otherwise, we need to be near some sort of public transportation. Taking all this into account, what do you think?

Incidentally, do you speak French? I am having great fun getting my messages translated and returned in French and sharpening my ability to read French. Using a web translator- but it forces me to use my very rusty French, a language I have loved and a people I have admired.

Thanks.

Sheila

Unfortunately No, I don't speak French living in the Capital city it sure would be a benefit but to be honest in all 3 cities most people speak English and French so you should be fine and Quebec City there is allot of English and allot of French but for some reason the French speaking are much better understanding English then the English are in understanding French.

My offer stands so when you get to Ottawa if you do come contact me and I will be of assistance in any way I can.

Sheila, Suzanne and I do speak French; in fact it is our native language. Let us know when you go to Quebec, we may be there at the same time, and will be glad to assist you. :)

Hello everybody

I'm a new guy on this site and I enjoy going through it each night, being a newbe in the RV's world. I live in Montreal and I have been in the three cities you are talking. Definitly Quebec City is a must see place in our beautifull province but as to make a choice between Ottawa and Montreal well it's very hard to say... But to let you you know, there's a big difference between the 2 cities. Ottawa is more OLD fashion English settlement with all the museums and Montreal, well it's the french AND english traditions thats collide together. Montreal is the city of restaurants, nice french hotels, fabulous nightlife (In Ottawa everything close at midnight), fabulous museums like Beaux Arts. The Old Montreal is full of french restaurants and we have fabulous parks, like Ile Ste-Helene where we had in 67 the International Expo...

It's just my humble point of view...

Richard
