The time is approaching when I will have to start making arrangements to ship my motorhome back to the UK, or at least seeing whether it is worthwhile.

I have searched all the posts and gained much valuable information and have come accross one shipping company
Trans Global  -  http://www.tgal.us

(The links to  ablecargo  http://www.ablecargo.com/Automobile_Shippi...Coast_Rates.htm

and

rst-international  http://www.rst-international.co.uk/main.html

from postings on

Topic 4655  http://www.rvforum.net/SMF_forum/index.php?topic=4655.0

no longer work)

and one shipping agent Brunswick International  http://www.brunswickinternational.co.uk/

Can anyone suggest any other companies that engage in this type of business. I always like to get at least 2 or 3 quotes before making a decision!

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Alan

I have just shipped my RV home 26th March arrived Southampton 17th May.
I used Simms ,Walters Associates Inc.
They are in Jacksonville Florida, contact phone number is 904 356 4455 ask for Sandra she will do all the paper work booking ect ect for you very simple and easy.

I shipped out of Brunswick Georgia to Southampton no unloading in Europe and being re- loaded  on another ship also i was informed by several sources that Brunswick
is safer for your gear you stow in the lockers , i had no damage or theft of property .
Shipping line was Wallenius.
Agent to do all the paper work and customs clearance in UK was Wainwright Bros Co Ltd of Southampton telephone No 023 8022 3671 ask for Sabine Sanderson or e-mail [email protected]
total i paid was $3170 payable when it arrives in the  UK to Wainwright that is for both companies fees and shipping no hidden cost,s
Hope this helps.

Hi Paul
It Is a B Touring Cruiser by Gulf stream 30 feet  long 2 slides  96 inches wide  and 10 feet 6 inches high,
i spoke to you whilst we were in the USA we down graded from a class A Tiffen Alegro 32 feet long 2 slides which we had for 8 months touring,  great RV
but decided to down grade to something more UK friendly.
Did i do the right thing only time will tell we had it for 4 months in the USA mainly touring around Florida during the winter, we did miss the space we had
at first but got used to it.
Import was no problem.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for the information. I will certainly contact this company.

Did you imply that you were allowed to ship stuff inside your vehicle. I had heard previously from somewhere that this was not allowed by one shipping company whose name I forget. We certainly have gathered a fair amount of 'stuff' on our travels some of which would be useful if we can get it back - but not that useful that I would want to pay too much for shipping it separately.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan

We shipped ours back with most of our stuff still in it - though the shipping line will tell you No (I think thats to cover them if your stuff gets stolen).

Anything of "value" (personal not cost) was hidden in places within the RV (under bed, behind washer/dryer, compartment behind galley pull-out, under settee, etc) and all was OK at the other end.

We did have small items stolen - but these were things someone could just grab quickly (CDs, Binoculars). Compared to the cost of shipping all our personal stuff seperately, it was worth it.

We took laptops etc in our personal luggage.

Be sure you have insurance for the trip across the Atlantic, and don't use this company (scroll down to see photos).

Hi Allan
Sorry i have not replied sooner, No one told us NOT  to put gear in the lockers so as i knew people had done this we did it as well,
It is a risk every body seems to take.
You will have to empty the propane tanks and produce a letter or certificate stating it has been done.
We used Kash Gas in Brunswick  address is 6043 New Jersey Hwy Brunswick 31523. Telephone 912-264=3027 Cost was $80 in April 2009
they will want your RV for at least 6 hours as they purge the tank and lines. If you arrive when they open you can avoid leaving it over night
That is what i did .
Other than that the agent sorts every thing out for you .
There is one other charge you will have to pay , When you get to the dock entrance you have to register with the security police they then give the transport people a call to escort you and the RV to their offices  Cost is $50 to the transport firm . It is all to do with 9/11 security it is $50 per person so leave the wife at the dock gate , you will only be gone half an hour.
Any thing else you want to know just ask or e- mail me at [email protected]
Regards FRED
