I am searching for a large - very large bike carrier.  While I have found plenty of standardard bike carriers for 3-4 bikes, we are a family of 7.  Does anyone know of a solution other than a light 2-wheel trailer?

While we do not currently pull a toad as we do nearby weekend camping or travel to family where car transportation is not an issue.  If we decide to pull a toad, would look for a solution to incorporate some of the bikes on the back of the MH and some on the back of the van.  Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for your help.

Friends of ours had similar needs.  He told me he had two choices, have a 2" hitch put on the front of the rig and then put 3 up front and 4 in the rear or he was going to have a custom rack built for the rear end.  He was concerned about how far it would stick out off the rear end and any legal issues, as well as cost.  He ended up putting the 2" receiver on the front.  I haven't seen how it was welded on up there though.

I too will suggest dual carriers.. Put 4 on the back and 4 either on the back of the towed or the front of the class A

THat is about the only way I know of.. Or put 4 on the "A" and 3 on the roof of the towed with a roof rack

One hand 'toy' you can get is a dual hitch adapter. this is a 2" drop/rise receiver adapter with a second 2" receiver on it

Use one of these on the rear of the "A". set it to tow the towed with whichever adapter works best and put the other receiver ABOVE the one used for towing

Bike rack goes into the 2nd receiver

2" receiver on the towed as well (rear)

Now you can carry the whole lot of 'em on the towed if you need to as well

How about one of these concepts, you could hitch it in the rear of the rv when not towing & to the toad when towing.

Thanks for all your input.  I like the idea of making a double hitch from John.  I think I will explore that one.

Dar, thanks for the web links.  I had found the smart trailer website previously and they have some clever concepts put some of the pricing information drove me to look for some other options.

Thanks again.  When I have something that works I will post pictures.
