Looking at a used 2008 Jaco Jayfeather Ultralight... help
« on: November 01, 2009, 12:22:30 AM »
A few questions about this TT. First is the suspension. Link type installed on the Jaco better or conventional leaf found on most TT's better?
What about 2 gray water tanks instead of one? And there wast dump handels. They seam long and prone to bending.
What about the roof problems I read about?
Jaco uses a different slide than say Aljo. More reliable or less?
And overall satisfaction with this TT?      Any and all thoughts are welcome.
Thanks for your input. jo

Two tanks are simply for ease of construction and spreading out the water weight - there is no particular advantage in having two vs 1 tank. Some Rvs tee the two together and some have separate dump valves, mostly depending on location.

Yes, long dump handles can bend. This sometimes happens after a few years when the valve begins to stick a bit and you push harder on the handle to close it.

Not sure of the side differences. Are you talking about fiberglass vs metal or something else?

Thanks for your insite Gary. It's the slide, not the side were concerned with. When looking at the slide bars the Jaco has holes along the bottom that are showing ware already. This TT has not seen that much use, so were a little concerned.
Thanks again for all the input. jo

Sorry - I misread "slide" for "side".  I haven't looked at a Jayco slide, so can't help you there.

I just inspected a Lance TT and it also has a torsion-bar suspension. Do manufactures use this to save weight or is it truly a better suspension? One of my concerns is the reduced ground clearance. We intend to go off road sometime. If it is a better suspension it may be worth the reduced ground clearance. Any thoughts?

I don't know if it is really superior or not. Read what Dexter Axle claims for their version:

Chrysler Corp used torsion bar suspension on their vehicles for many years. I don't recall any more problems than with spring suspension, but I don't recall any big advantages either.

Alko is another manufacturer of rubber torsion axles. Some info here:

Personally I like the MorRyde rubber torsion axle system. They are a top notch company and provide great customer service as well.
