toyo tires
« on: July 07, 2009, 11:08:47 AM »
ready to buy new tires. local dealer handles most major brands, Goodyear bridgestone etc. but he said they sell allot of the toyo tires because of the much lower price. He says their just as good as the others for the intended purpose. What do you guys think? Thanks, Gary ............................Sorry about this post. I just remembered to check the search file and found more than enough info on toyo tires. No more info. is needed, thank you so much. Gary

I looked at the Toyo price and said I'll try 6 of them. BTW, my tire size is 11R x 22.5 so the initial savings of $600 got my attention. My steering was very soft and the RV tended to need more than normal steering correction. My previous front tires were Bridgestones and I did not have the problem. After 250 miles, I went back to the dealer and asked for Bridgestones for the front. He gave me 100% credit for the two Toyos on two new Bridgestones. The two new Bridgestones corrected the steering problem.  I have left the other 4 TOYOs on the rear where they seem to be fine.

After all was said and done, the dealer told me that I was not the first person who had been dissatisfied with the Toyos as steering tires and he had done this exchange before. On over the road trucks, it is not uncommon to have different brand tires on steering and drive wheels. The steering tires should be a matched pair.

Goodyear still has the rebates on the G670. ($40-80/tire - depending on size). 6 x the rebate should close the gap on the price difference significantly. I recently went to them and am very pleased.

I got the (6) 225/70R19.5's off of eBay, finagled a good deal with a local shop to mount (I pulled the old tires/wheels my self and took the to the shop), ordered dynabeads, and got the rebate. When all was said and done, I was 'on the road' at right at $240/tire (plus my 'sweat-equity')!!!! Local shop quoted me about $1850 for the Toyo's mounted and balanced...

DON'T put Goodyears on the steer axle if they are the G670 tire.  That tire will wear in an unusual pattern if run on the front axle and will need replacement after about 18,000 miles.  Not just my opinion or statement, but lot of others that have run them.

Some have experienced river wear on the the G670 RV tires on the steer axle, but it's not a catastrophic problem and it's far from universal.  It's more of a cosmetic than an actual safety issue.  Many tire wear problems are due to a bad alignment.  We have G670 tires on our steer axle and had a front end alignment done at the same time and are not experiencing any unusual wear pattern.  This is after 17,000+ miles.

I've got 10,000+ miles on our G670s all the way around and haven't had any unusual wear.

We have 22k on 670's with no unusual wear.

I also put a set of Toyo's on our 98 Pace Arrow on a Ford F-53 chassis and had handling problems. Replaced them with Michelin's that fixed the wandering.

I had a sidewall blowout on one of my Michelins (about 5 years old) so I put a set of Toyos  on my Horizon. They drive as good as the Michelins that were replaced. The Toyos were about half the price of Michelins. I changed from an 80 to a 70 width and got as close as possible to the same diameter. The ply rating was also increased.

So far, I am very pleased with the Toyos.

The Toyo website says their tires are not to be used on National and Country Coach products. As I understand it Toyo claims that the tires used on National and Country coach units were overloaded which caused the problems.

I would carefully check for overloading on the Country Coach units regardless of tire brand used. Read the Toyo website.

Wayne:

In 2002 National replaced a large number of tires because they were not capable of carrying the GVW loads of the coache.sd they were installed on. I believe Toyo decided it wasn't worth the legal risks to have their tires on National's coaches. They ended up putting Bridgestones on our Tradewinds.

When making a statement like this, it would be most helpful if you would provide the link to the specific page on the referenced site. I went to the TOYO site and was unable to locate their comments about Country Coach, although I'm not surprised by the statement since CC  was building heavy coaches before they went to the tag axles.

I usually do not post links unless they are unique. I assume that all internet users are able to use Google as well as I can. I am presently  at Indian Springs C G near Garrett, IN where my internet is operating at about one half of dial-up speed via my AT&T cell phone.

Jeff states it as I understand the problem.

My Toyo tires were manufactured in Georgia, USA.

I have also had a blowout using a Bridgestone on my previous MH. The same problem appears to occur with all manufacturers.

Try the links below.

No you didn't, they're just thinking. Thanks for the input on the tires. We are looking for tires and the price can be an eye opener. Goodyear has quoted me a price that is $1000.00 higher than some of the other dealers for the same size tires. I was told the sale (coupon, discount etc.) was no longer in effect, and for (6) 8R19.5's, it would run $2300.00 plus tax. It is nice to know that if you follow your load limits, the tires will be fine. Thanks,...chell

I would sure check around on that price. It was 14 months ago but I paid 2350.00 for 6 G680 255/70R22.5's.
