Nancy & I are going camping and invite all our RV Forum friends (and their friends too) to join us. This years Fall Rally will be at the Lake Aire RV Park near Charleston, SC, from Oct 28 thru Nov 1. Come early or late and stay later if you can, but please join us.

Charleston has lots to see and do and there is plenty of shopping for the ladies. For the men there is the aircraft carrier Yorktown and Fort Sumter and nearly everybody enjoys the fascinating Charleston Aquarium or Magnolia Plantation.

Lake Aire is on the outskirts of Charleston, just off US 17. They have grassy sites with plenty of full hook-ups and both 30A and 50A available. Most are pull-through sites. The area we will be in is open, so satellite tv or internet should work fine. We will also have the use of their pavilion and big fire pit. Free Wifi too, though I don't know how much of the park it covers.

Make your own reservations and tell them you are with the RV Forum group. Passport America rates are honored and so are Good Sam and Happy Campers or ask about the special rally rate.

50amp full hook up sites are $24.59 per night and 30amp full hook up is $21.27 per night and these rates do include tax and sewer.

We stayed at Lake Aire twice last spring, once for a rally and another on our way back to Hilton Head (preferred Lake Aire), and wouldn't hesitate going back. The owners are real nice people. Sorry we can't make the rally, it would be great seeing our "Eastern" friends again.

We've stayed there multiple times too. About the only drawback is the railroad track that runs by the campground and some folks will even be nostalgic about that.

I thought it was a prerequisite for ALL campgrounds to be adjacent to the rail road tracks, with mainline tracks being preferred<<GGG>>.

Remember on NOV 1^st Daylight Saving Time ends.. That may be disastrous.

Gary, I am going to seriously consider doing this, but I may be a late entry. I am on another trip though the Carolinas and Florida that was scheduled to depart towards home around 10/25 or so. Maybe I could extend by a few days, but I need to work and pay for this coach as well!!! I can work as long as I have internet access, so I may join you, but not be visible until HAPPY HOUR!

Cheryl and I would love to be there, but we've had a late September to mid-October three-week trip planned for the past year. Family and work considerations dictate that we not head back out on another trip the end of October.

Here is some additional rally info...

The usual daily happenings will occur, all informal (we rarely do anything "formal" anyway).

- an informal coffee klatch starting around 8 a.m. or whenever people begin to stumble about. Bring your coffee or tea cup and maybe a pot of coffee or some sweet rolls to share
- Happy Hour around 4 pm. Bring your favorite beverage for yourselves and perhaps some hors de'ouvres to share
- Meal time around 6 pm or so. Bring your own plate and utensils.
- Evening camp fire where we continue the camaraderie and swap ~~lies~~ wisdom & humor

Because the first night is usually very social as people renew old friendships and make new ones, I suggest that we plan the first night (10/28) to have "heavy hors de-ouvres" and call that "dinner". That way we don't have to pause to get a meal together.

On the second night (10/29), Nancy & I will provide the evening meal, probably chicken or ribs or maybe even both. Just bring your appetite and utensils.

On the third night (10/30), we could do the traditional pot luck dinner, if folks wish to bring a dish, or maybe somebody else will volunteer something?

And on the last night (10/31) we may want to go out to a restaurant or

One of the Southeast rally traditions is a breakfast on one morning, prepared by the men while the ladies kibitz. The ladies typically take off for a shopping trip afterward while the men clean up. Sounds like a lot of fun is being planned! Wish we could join in, but it's a looooong way from Phoenix. (Plus, we were there in June for our first visit of the Charleston area)

I'm in favor of the breakfast. We could do pancakes, eggs & bacon w/ toast or we could provide sweets such as rolls or donuts.

I for one love sausage gravy and biscuits. If you can organize prep for the biscuits and gravy, it would be a welcome addition.

The usual problem is too much food! Also, we need some guys to handle things like salt & pepper, butter, serving bowls and spoons, and all the logistical odds and ends that go into serving a meal.

I hear ya, Gary. Since this is my first rally I'll sign up for a supporting role and just watch and learn. I must admit though that I make a mean sausage gravy and a very edible biscuit.

Maybe at a future rally.

We do several "Pig Pickin's" every year so I do have a fairly large assortment of mixing/serving bowls, cooking/serving utensils, a good collection of kitchen knives and several cutting/prep boards that I will bring. These are all items that have seen many community brunches and family reunions.

I'll do a BJ's or CostCo run and pick up some salt and pepper shakers.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone attending.

You could whip up a small batch any morning, Lou. At these affairs, people typically gather outside some rig, coffee cup in hand, to swap lies and nibble on whatever goodies some kind soul offers. I'll bet a plate of biscuits and a bowl of gravy would disappear real quick!

There is a station at the corner where you turn from rte. 17 onto the road for Lake Aire, but can't remember if it carried diesel. You can give them a call at (843) 763-6250. Think it does carry it, but not sure. We didn't need to buy any when we were at Lake Aire. But there is a great coffee roaster up the road on 17 west bound on the north side of the road in Ravenel-ICCB.

It does have a coffee bar, but its primary business is coffee beans. I had them custom roast a couple of pounds of Sumatra beans for me, GREAT. Reasonable also,about $10/lb for most varieties.
