I have seen rvs for sale on ebay with a slide that was made in the 70s but I don't recall the manufacturer.

Some park models and regular mobile homes had slides in the mid '60s.  Probably manual extend/retract.  I can't remember.

The concept of expandable rooms dates back to at least the 1960s.  Trailers that were intended to be set up for extended periods of times had what was called tip-out rooms.    Instead of sliding in and out, they were hinged along the bottom edge and tipped into the trailer for travel.  You'd slide the furniture that was in the tip-out into the trailer, then the tip-out would fit around them in the travel position.

Lou, evidently there were various designs.  My mother had one in 1968 that was a "slide".  I do remember the term "tip out", but hers was quite large and definitely a slide out.  Of course it was never closed after the initial set up.
