Tow Dolly
« on: October 13, 2009, 11:20:25 AM »
;) I finally got the good word that I can tow my 2007 Chrysler Sebring on a tow dolly. Does amyone know what gear it should be in some say park and of course some say neutral.

Thanks,

Gary

It will be in the manual for your Sebring - look in the index or table of contents for "Towing".  It will tell you exactly how it can be towed.  My guess is Park, for just about any FWD car on a dolly... I'm not sure why you'd keep it in Neutral.  If you don't have a manual for your car, you should be able to access/download for free at www.chrysler.com.

I did find something in the manual it's a little confusing and it appears to be listed as neutral. I may go to the dealer and see if I can't find out for sure.

You can call Chrysler at 1-800-890-4038  I think SOME dealers just make a educated guess. I know that I have been given wrong info from dealers before.

I didn't see that in the manual (I just downloaded it and looked)... in fact, there are NO instructions on recreational towing with a dolly.  ::)  The only thing even listed in that section is the fact that you can't tow 4-down without damaging the engine/tranny.  That's common, you could still do it but you'd need an extra pump to keep the tranny lubed while you drive.  But none of that is needed with a dolly, and I can't imagine why you'd have any problems towing with the front wheels (drive wheels) off the ground.

According to the owner of my Chrysler dealership it's OK to tow which by the way I am very happy with. I will find out about what gear to tow in.

Thanks all,

We have towed a PT Cruiser with automatic tranny for five years on a dolly.  We always put the PT's transmission in "Park" when towing.  Just be sure that the parking brake is OFF--don't ask me how I know that....

We're about to purchase a Tow Dolly because our two cars (2009 Prius and Town & Country) can not be towed four down.  We were focusing on a RaceCityRV dolly but the Master Tow Dollys are considerable less expensive.  Any thoughts on that decision and should we get brakes or not?  If brakes, does it matter if we use surge versus electric? We're towing with a 43' Beaver Contessa, also 2009.

Thanks!

The Race City dollies have additional space to carry a motorcycle of golf cart. The Master Tow dollies do not, so that's the price difference. If you only need to tow a car, the MasterTow (or similar) is all you need.

I've already addressed the brake question in your nearly identical post here:

It's best to keep all the answers in one place, so I won't duplicate here.
