sorry, I had to go look to be sure, it's a Canon Power Shot SD1000 Digital ELPH with 7.1 mpixels.  I've had it for several years after upgrading from a similar Pentax.   Already taken over 4000 pics.  I picked it for the large LCD and small size so it goes everywhere I go.  My nephew has one as well and he suggested that I try some "freeware" software that gives you infinite control over the settings.  You load the new software on the SD card and choose it or the OEM software when you turn on the power.  With the "freeware", I'm a beginner again, but you can get some amazing shots when you have direct control over every function.  For instance you can photograph lightning and time lapse sequences.  go to http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK if you are interested.

BTW: here's some discussion of the future of digital photos:  http://www.gearlog.com/2009/10/death_of_the_dslr.php

Thanks for the explanation and the links. Interesting article on the marginalization of DSLRs. Maybe I should return mine and wait for the new generation  ???

And we just bought an FZ28 this summer, the predecessor to the FZ38 (not FX).

I really like my TZ3, it fits in my pocket.
