Photo printers
« on: November 01, 2009, 04:03:46 PM »

I am looking for a decent photo printer in a mid priced range. One that is not too big, so that I can bring it in our RV. Can anyone give me some info on this? Thanks!

Most printers do a great job on photos today.  Unless you plan to print large quantities it makes little difference which printer you choose.  If it were me I would consider price ................. price of the printer and price of printer cartridges.

In reality, it is cheaper to send them to WalMart, CVS, WalGreens, etc. via the internet and pick them up an hour later.  When you need high quality on actual photo paper send them to a pro lab.

Both Canon and Epson make excellent photo printers for reasonable prices.  Things to look for are separate cartridges for each ink color, at least 5 colors plus black, and whatever interface you like, USB and/or wireless.

We have used Epson printers for years with excellent results when printing photos as large as 8x10.

A lot depends on what you want to do with the printer. If you are planning on doing a lot of photos, you should get a 4 (or more) cartridge printer, as mentioned by Ned. Only If you will be doing mostly letters and some color printing will a 2 cartridge system work fine (1 cartridge for black and 1 for colors, somewhat more expensive refills). You should be able to find a number of 2 cartridge printers for around $50, 4 cartridge models for about $100. Canon has been rated very good, my last 4 have been Canons, take up little space and have pretty economical ink refills .
