Boondockers Welcome
« on: November 06, 2009, 10:35:00 PM »
I spotted a sign at a small farm/ ranch about 10 miles West of Douglas, AZ along Highway 80 that said "Boondockers Welcome"

That were me Jeff. The other topic was started specifically for forum members who offer space on their own property for other forum members to stay free.

We have another topic here for folks who know of, but don't own, places to overnight free. I'd forgotten about that one until composing this reply.

OK, just checkin'

I frankly was so shocked to see that sign I almost went back to snap a pic. This guy is on the south side of the last (real) road to the Mexican border.

Wow, we were thinking of heading down Douglas AZ way next. Might have to check it out.

We've been to Douglas, AZ in the past. I have never seen so many Border Patrol vehicles in one place in my life. Found out that it is one of the largest drug trafficking locations along the AZ border.

That does not mean it might not be safe to stay there but I would be careful of where I stayed!!

Dick, I used to live in Benson and then Sierra Vista.   That part of the border from Douglas to Sonoita is smuggler central and has been for decades.   Bad spot to boondock in less than platoon strength.   I would give it a pass.

Our next door neighbor and his wife both grew up in Douglas.  Just last week he commented to Jerry that they (he and relatives who still live there) never go across to Aqua Prieta anymore.  It's just too dangerous and not worth it.

I definitely would not boondock anywhere in that area.  People who have ranches near Douglas are overrun by illegals crossing their land on the way north.
