Fire Fox - Fast dial
« on: November 09, 2009, 03:52:13 PM »
Am Using FF Fast dial with great pleasure.Does anyone know why the "Drudge Report" lately is not able to be selectable in "Fast Dial"?

I have the pane (black) but cannot update it. Right click does not provide the option.

John, just google-   Fast Dial Firefox   -

Quite a few entries explaining the add-on.

Allows you to one-click your favorite sites via icons. I use it all the time. I was going to send a screen print, but forgot how to do it right now.

How different is that from just using the FF Bookmarks toolbar?

Hi Bernie, It is a super shortcut for finding your daily favorite sites. Instead of looking up the bookmark listing, this feature is available on every page on the tab bar by one click. Then a page comes up with multi icons that you have selected. For example: RVForum, Bloomberg, Hurricane forcast/status, whatever you select. You can program/select many sites with ease. I use about a dozen or so..no need to overdue it.

One click on an icon and you are connected.

Like I said above. I would like to send a screen shot but haven't re-figured it out yet. Maybe you can give me a hint on how to do that...

No kidding, makes life a lot easier...you'll love it.

It is a short add-on and does not interfere with anything. I luv Firefox.

If you have a small number of sites that you visit regularly, just keep them open in tabs and let Firefox restore the session when it starts up.  No clicking involved :)

I knew I could count on you, Ned. Would you like to run with a dozen or more tabs...not me.  Still takes a click.

Mine takes 2 clicks and I dont have to search the tab bar, without a visual screen icon to find what I am looking for. Firefox tells me that too many tabs slows down the computer.Let's agree to disagree.

  Have a good day.

I often have a dozen or more tabs open.  I have at least 4 open all the time and they open up every time I start Firefox.  No clicking at all, they're just there.  I have my tabs on the sidebar so I can see what each tab holds, no matter how many are open.  And they don't slow down the computer or Firefox, that's just bad information.

That's just my preferred mode of operation, others prefer to work harder :)

Carson

I currently have 5 icons on my FF bookmark toolbar. If I want the RV Forum, all I do is click the RV Forum icon and it loads. If I want my web mail site, all I do is click on the Cox High Speed Inter... site and I am there. Etc., etc., etc. To load an icon, click on Bookmarks, click on Bookmark this page, select bookmark toolbar for location and the icon and description of the site is added. My Bookmark toolbar is located between the navigation toolbar and the Google toolbar.

I may beat everyone in bookmarks, and folders to organize them that often go 5-6 deep. My RV Forums bookmarks folder sits on the toolbar, and at the bottom I simply select "open all" and have 9 forum pages (tabs) all opened at the same time. This in addition to 11 currently open FF tabs at the bottom, all containing more than one open tab. I'll go look at this Fast Dial, but not sure it can get any easier than that.

(edit: found it, loaded it....   I like my tabs. Everything is right there on the upper bar no matter what tab i am on. no prob with drudge either.. :) )

here's one way:
press "cntrl-alt-printscreen" and this puts the screen shot on the clipboard, open a program like word or powerpoint and hit control-V or edit/paste and the screen shot will be placed in the document

That's a standard feature in Chrome and Opera.  It's one way to manage a small number of favorite pages.  The strength of Firefox is with addons it can be made to behave just the way the user prefers.  It's good to have choices.

LOL, send that page to a shrink and we could have a psych profile in a few minutes... once everyone has access to everything, then privacy will be restored because no one would have the time or energy to sort through it all.  As it is now, the important stuff is clearly marked so the hackers can find it more quickly...

I am currently writing a add on program for Firefox. It will display a link to every web site in the entire world. That way you can instantly access any web page you wish. Of course the tabs will be very very small, so you will have to hover your mouse over them to find the right one, but I figure with a few months practice you should be able to find the page you want in a hurry. Of course since the tabs will basically fill the monitor screen you will need a 32 inch monitor for the program to work. And since the tabs will fill the screen the actual browser window will be about one square inch, but I am working on including a magnifying glass to solve that problem. And since each site takes a few moments to load once you get them all loaded (I am guessing it will take two days to load all the web sites in the world) then you will need you leave your computer on 24/7. As soon as I get these final few bugs out I will bring it to market. I am not going to sell it since it is common knowledge that the best software doesn't cost money. Then you can download it and be the fastest surfer on your block and stop working so hard.

(To deviate a tad) Since the FF experts are here here, does anyone know if there is an add-on to cause entry of the master password only once to allow auto-password population of anything called up during the session? If Fast Dial does this I might begrudgingly force myself to adapt. On my RV Forum page that encompasses 9 different forum pages, each wants the master password.

Sure, Tools | Options | Security, Use a Master Password.  After entering the master password, all the saved passwords will be available.

If you're getting prompted for your forum password every time you access a forum page, then when you log in, be sure to check the box that keeps you logged in forever.  I haven't been prompted for my forum password for nearly 2 years.

It prompts me for my master password. So when I "open all in tabs", I get endless windows prompting me for the same password.

I don't use the master password on my Firefox passwords so haven't run into that.  Click on Help, Help Contents (or press F1 in Firefox) and search on master password and see if there are any related articles.  A search of the Mozilla knowledge base might turn up something too.

Ok, looked at it.. Does not appear it will help me.. I have bookmarks orginized so the sites I visit daily are at the top.  Sites I visit "on rare occasions" are farther down.

Thus, I almost never scroll the bookmarks screen
