Illuminated Carnivals - UK Style
« on: November 10, 2009, 01:31:43 AM »

Last night saw the Burnham-on-Sea Carnival - http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/news/2009/carnival-review-09-11-09.php

Enjoy the photos in the above link and see how close these 100ft long illuminated floats get to the houses/shops down some of our narrow streets - of course, then there were the 20,000 spectators enjoying this free annual event too.

Click on the Home Page - http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/ - and you can see details of the other Carnivals to-date this year (plenty more to go). You can also see a few daylight pics and a video or two.

Enjoy.

No, afraid not Tom.

This year I had to make do with the photos as Im down with the dreaded "Man Flu" (AKA a cold).

For those interested, the Floats are usually driven by a guy sat hidden somewhere toward the front and they have a very small window to see out of - hence all the road marshalls with mikes/headphones to help direct things.

There is usually a huge generator at the rear of the floats - often the size of a C-Class RV.

On Sunday night there was a free firework display along the promenade, which was so loud the RV shook a few times.  :o

Hi

Take a look at this - http://www.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk/history.php

We LOVE having American friends over - in fact, for every yank we get, we send two "Welsh folks" in return.

So, if anyone wants to charter a plane load of American headed our way, we will be eternally grateful  ;D
