Looking to upgrade. Anybody have an RVision or Dutchmen?
« on: November 15, 2009, 08:35:57 AM »
First off the wife and I bought a hybrid Starcraft for our first camper and thought it was VERY well made and thought out. Baby was just learning to walk and we needed more space so we upgraded.... We traded for a 25ft 2003 Coachman that is OK. We have had fun with it but the wife wanted a slide and I wanted something super nice/sturdy like the Starcraft. Coachman has been sold on Ebay and we are starting to look around.

A local has a 2004 Dutchmen 26QBS that they want what they owe for (8500). It is very nice with all the options. Does anybody have experience with these? The owners did say they maybe able to take a little less if we want it....

An RV dealer north of us has a 27ft R Vision that is pretty nice... Floor isnt solid which is known problem. The RVision did feel a little cheaper but the price is right! (6000). Any experience with R Visions?

There is a Forest River Surveyor we may look at also.... Thanks, any opinions/experience would be helpful.

The Dutchman and R-Vision are economy brands, built primarily with an eye towards low price rather than top notch construction. That doesn't mean they won't work for you, but if you really  want high quality construction you are going to have to step up in price somewhat.  KZ, Forest River, Jayco, etc.

We haven't looked at the Forest River Surveyor. It is only 50 miles away so no big deal. The Dutchmen we looked at was super nice (loaded with options). I have always heard Jayco made a good camper and it makes sense as I believe our Starcraft was made by Jayco... None really in my price range close though. There is a larger Starcraft with a slide 120 miles away but it has a shower, no tub. Our toddler needs a tub...... and the little dog has needed a tub......

Don't let the lack of tub turn you away from the Starcraft.

You can get a big plastic tub to make a bathing place for your toddler and the dog.  You could exchange the shower head for one with a long extension on it, fill the tub which could sit on the floor and then you have a place for baths.  Once you are done with the plastic tub, it can be filled with toys.  I only know all of this because our kids did that with our granddaughter.  They travel all summer and have a slide in truck camper, so came up with the multifunction tub.  Oh, in the summer they filled the tub and it became an outside pool to play in..... ;D

Thanks for the ideas? We are suppose to drag Christmas decorations out this weekend so I dont know if we will get to go look at any or not. I did call about the Starcraft yesterday and got some more information. The beauty of looking now is the chances of these campers disappearing fast this time of year are slim...
